That's what I needed to do.  A couple months of long hours in the office were starting to drive me crazy and I needed to escape reality for a weekend.  Luckily, sidm was on the same wave length and suggested we head down the coast to Morro Bay/San Luis Obispo.  Having never been down that way, it sounded like just what I needed.  Weather was forecasted to be just right, so we planned the route, packed our bags and hit the road...

A few twisties later and we were on the coast.

Bixby Bridge exceeded expectations.

Sid swears he didn't plan wearing his Big Sur Relay shirt...

Reached our destination right at sunset.  Pulled up at the end of the strand for the photo op in front of Morro Rock.

The ride back was just as amazing.  A few more "on the road" pics that I thought came out alright...

Made it home feeling completely recharged, but the camera was a bit tuckered out!

Thanks for reading and happy riding, everyone!

Did a similar trip last month.  "Exceeded expectations" was a good way of summarizing the way I felt about the entire experience.  Can't wait to take another little tour again.   [thumbsup]

Cheap little bracket from eBay, which mounts using the gas cap bolts.  I took the pics by just clicking the shutter button.  I would've used the timer, but my point-n-shoot defaults back to regular shutter release each time it goes to sleep; hitting the shutter button was easier than trying to turn on the timer each time.

The trip was absolutely necessary, and can't wait to do 1-2 more jaunts up or down the coast again this year.

B, Thanks for the pics - good times amigo.

That is such a fantastic route! Everyone who rides should do that ride at least once before they die.

agreed ... just make certain the weather is nice.

i did that route on a borrowed multi stroodel two years ago to go see some friends from italy who where visiting santa barbara. the entire way down, the coast was cold and fogged in, road was wet/slippery, visibility varied from what seemed like only 10 feet to perhaps 20 yards in the good sections.  this weather persisted from the moment i crossed skyline heading over old santa cruz road, all the way down 1 until i got inland, just south of camp san luis obispo.   oh, and there were like eleventy billion winnebagos on 1 that day (middle of the week too)  [bang]

Johnc - That only happened to you because you're a bad person.

Seriously, I've done that ride in crap weather and good and it's been fun either way. But good weather and bad is the difference between "relaxing" fun and "fighting your way out of hell" fun.
I own several motorcycles. I have owned lots of motorcycles. And have bolted and/or modified lots of crap to said motorcycles...

i will note that i have done this same route when the weather was warm, dry and visibility was great ... that was truly a nice ride indeed.  [thumbsup]
