Scala Rider teamset

Hello all, Last week I got the Scala Rider teamset wireless headset. This past weekend i got to test it a little bit. While taking them out of the box they looked to be of high quality. 10 mintes later they were installed on both helmets. I charged them up overnight , and a young lady friend of mine used them all day. WOW I was impressed. I wasnt sure what I was gonna hear. At highwat speeds on Long Island NY. They were crystal clear, lasted all day. For riding two up they were awesome.

Great to hear!  My wife and I have started riding 2-up, and I think a comm system is next up on our list.  I was looking at the Scala Rider teamset as an option.  Do you know anything about playing music with it?  She'd like to be able to listen to her iPod.

I was impressed that this set has the ability (or so it's advertised) for rider and passenger to be on one phone at the same time in a conference call.  Do you know if the rider and passenger sets can be linked to separate phones for independent calling?  I don't know if we'd ever need that, but I was curious.

You can plug it into an mp3 and bluetooth with your cell phone

Only the drivers unit has the ability to answer phone calls, and yes you can 3 way conversation with them

Well, I got the Scala Rider Teamset.  Only set me back ~$150 at Competition Accessories (for the matched pair).  I couldn't afford the fancy sets that cost that much or more for one unit.  That, and I like the idea of being able to conference between the rider, passenger, and phone.  Plus both units have a jack for hooking up an MP3 player, so my wife can listen to her iPod if she wants.

I haven't tested the rider-passenger intercom yet, but the bluetooth interaction with my Blackberry Storm works well.  I wish it had a little bit more volume, but I think part of the problem is my placement of the left-side speaker.  I can hear the right-hand side perfectly, just doesn't sound like I'm getting much out of the left.

Granted... the only time it lacks volume is when I'm doing 70 MPH on I-84 in the Columbia River Gorge, riding into a 15-20mph headwind.  With an effective airspeed of 85-90 mph, it's no wonder I have a hard time hearing over the wind noise in my not-so-quiet Arai.  When I'm riding the other direction... at an airspeed of 50 mph, I can hear the other person very clearly.

(The Columbia River Gorge is famous for its high winds... Hood River, OR is the windsurfer's Mecca)

On the plus side: going down the onramp onto the freeway, I could tell the unit was doing it's job adjusting the volume as the ambient noise got louder, it just didn't get quite loud enough for 70 mph+stiff headwind+earplugs.

As for the other end, the folks I've tested it with (my dad on one call, and my wife on a couple calls) said they could hear me just fine... didn't sound like I was on the freeway, just maybe like I was standing outdoors.  Freakin' awesome.

when you hook it up to an ipod, can both rider and passenger listen to the same ipod at the same time?

also, doesn't  this conflict with the need for ear plugs?

Not sure about the iPod, but I wear earplugs with the Scala. The headphones are positioned in front of your ears, so you can actually hear it better with the plugs than without. Mostly earplugs just drop wind noise. I can still hear everything else.

Was going to ask the same thing. I love using in-ear phones for music, as it cancels out wind and still allows me to listen to music at a comfortable volume. Not exactly a legal riding configuration, though.

Christian... any sound loss doing it with foam ear plugs? Seems like you'd lose some sound quality. Bit of an anal question, but I like my music.

I don't have a problem using earplugs with my Sena.  It seems to make the sound more crisp.

I normally wear earplugs because the wind noise in my Arai Quantum II is deafening.  With the Scala-Rider Teamset, I have tried it with and without earplugs, and it actually seems to work better WITH plugs.  The "without" was by accident... I was in a hurry and forgot to put my earplugs in before putting my helmet on, so I said "to hell with it" and rode without them.  It was hard to hear my wife over the wind noise.  I can hear her a lot more clearly with earplugs in.  Like Christian said, the plugs mostly cut the wind noise, but the vocal patterns coming through the speakers are clearly audible.

No... and yes.  No, the rider unit does not broadcast music to the passenger set wirelessly.  So by design, no, they aren't intended to listen to the same source.  However... both units include a cable and a jack for plugging in a music player like an iPod.  You could buy a 1-2 splitter from Radioshack and connect both headsets to the same iPod, though this kinda defeats the purpose of having a wireless intercom.

I am looking into la scala for next season. 
Do u know if it can communicate with other models (older)?  Got few riders on that brand and wanted 2 match and communicate.

I have the latest version and it's downward compatible with the q3 models and q2.  I also use it with ear plugs and connect my iphone via bluetooth to listen to music.  The volume is much improved on the 4 series compared to the 3 series.
