Unless the title was damaged in the crash and needed to be rebuilt, my guess is that the estimated cost of repairs exceeded the value of the bike before the loss.

It's listed in the MV fees chart on the OK tax department site, as an "inspection fee": http://www.tax.ok.gov/motvehfees.html

On doing a little research I found that Oklahoma doesn't impose the same restrictions that salvage titled vehicles in Texas must comply with to be resold. DFW being the first metropolitan area to the south, the local Craig's seems to have more than it's share of bikes and cars for sale with Oklahoma titles.

i talked to the guy and he said the bike is in beautiful shape and you wouldn't be able to tell it had been in an accident.  he doesn't have receipts for repair...except for the new front wheel, so i'm wondering if you ever wanted to make it street legal (just to get it considered salvaged/rebuilt here in texas) if it would even be possible, because i hear you have to go through an inspection and show all receipts for repair work etc. though, if this "inspection" can be done at a place of your choosing, like AMS, i would feel a little better about it.

cheap insurance, that's for sure... since you would only be able to get liability for it.  though how would they handle the claims adjustment on it if someone hit you or stole it?  how would they determine it's actual cash value?  that would be something i would be scared of...having the insurance company tell me they'll give me $3k for the claim.
