Hey Swanny, I don't think I've actually met you (maybe?) but I already owe you a bunch of "thanks".  Your looking out for the group with the Hill Country munchables was a generous and righteous thing to do.  Kudos to you for that.  There was no need, but you still did it.  That puts you in the pile with the "good peeps".

That being said, It pissed me off when bad things happen to good people.  Tough times for you pisses me off.  I'm officially pissed.

Pull through.  I'll buy you a beer when you get past all this.

Hang in there.  Sorry for the misfortune.

White Settlement was named by the community back in the 1800s to let people know it was safe from Indian attacks... which were very popular back then. And the vote to change the name was soundly defeated by over 90% of the population and that means all races wanted to keep the name because of it's historical significance not because of racial bias against non-whites. If I remember right the Mayor who pushed the issue on the ballot got in trouble for doing so with the townspeople and supposedly was in a fight to keep his job. It was a very unpopular decision to put it up for a vote. I think the Mayor thought the name was driving off business because people would think the town was racist. Now in the days of "PC" everyone is just so touchy about everything.

Sorry for the history lesson but I had a friend from there and I could tell everyone was putting on their "I Hate White Settlement" hats due to "PC".

Thanks for the story.  I used to live nearby and have friends there.  Figured the name went way back but didn't know .."the rest of the story" ..as Paul Harvey would say.  I bet the kids don't know who he is.

You and Amy have my sympathy as well. My grandpa had a stroke in front of me a few weeks back (and lived)... we all suffer the same fate so live life to its fullest and never regret.

I'm in for dinner if there is one.

P.S.
I worked in White Settlement for 2 years, I believe the locals affectionately call it "The Settlement."

Yes, I can't say anything better than what has already been said here.
