Just replaced a perfectly good 35 watt HID kit with a 55 watt kit and now have a problem.....turn the key on and the light works perfectly, both high and low-beam......but as soon as i start it up the light dies, never to return.......does anyone have some input to my problem...? I switch it off......then on again........it works......goes off as i kick it into life......has me baffled..... gggrrrrrrrr............. [bang]

I noticed my bike shuts the light off as I press the starter for a moment, presumably to reduce the load on the battery while starting.

It may be that your HID light doesn't like that, or else that doing that to is causes enough of a start-up surge that it's damaged the relay or wiring.

Many thanks to both of you.......Suzie & Gino.....i am taking it to George to test on Friday..my thoughts so far is that my battery is shagged and can't deliver whats needed on start up....cos my 35 watt was no trouble......hhhmmmm........

Found the problem, was a faulty ballast........many thanks for your input everyone.

Might have to go German i think.......i was given a new ballast as the last one was faulty and it seemed to fix the problem................that is....until tonight when i found that over 5000rpm the bloody thing just cuts out completely.......only to come back on when i back off....not a nice experience on a dark night..........back to the drawing board...........

Geeze Brian, I bet this is starting to be a pain in the arse, maybe suzyj can throw some light on it ...oops  ;D

This won't hurt much.... Trust me......

Sounds like your light has an overvoltage cutoff, which comes on when your bike is revved.

Have you got a voltmeter?  It'd be good to measure your battery voltage at various revs.

It may be that your battery is on its way out - their series resistance increases when they get old, so the terminal voltage goes up more under charge (and down more under discharge).

Finally fixed it suzyj...........well........(lie).......George & Shaun did........... [thumbsup]........  He did put  the meter on it, eventually they found that it was the connections inside the HID's fuse assembly plus my lack of finding a suitable earth.........an hour later all was well......many thanks for the input all........
