exhaust swap power?

Just currious about the power gain from doing an exhaust swap.

Everyone talks about how much better the bike looks/sounds with Termis.  But i'll be damned if i've read anywhere about what kind of power increase i'm looking at.

I'm actually looking at getting the 696... and i know it's a little early to have that info for them... but i'd be currious as to what you've gotten on the Dyno with other models as opposed to stock exhaust.

Also, it's going to be my first bike... and if the increase is going to be noticable, i may want to start with my bike stock (aside from a 14t sprocket)... and leave the termis (and possibly 15t sprocket) for when i want more juice.

Based on my Seat Of Pants Dyno, I figure that going from stock pipes to Ducati Performance carbon slipons on my 1997 M900 was worth at least half a horsepower.  But it sounded faster.

Airbox mods and rejetting were probably worth four to five horsepower.

You should expect similar horsepower gains by adding Termis to your 696.

so basically what i'm looking at is not much increase in HP or Torque, so i won't kill myself any quicker...

but i'll be louder so maybe someone will actually notice me and not kill me instead.

Sounds like a good mod for a beginner bike.  But damn if it ain't expensive.

I'd disagree a little on it being a good mod for a beginner bike.  As anyone will tell you, beginners are the most likely to drop the bike and I'd rather drop my bike onto a stock can (one of the most likely things to be damaged in a drop) than drop it on an expensive Termi.  I'd wait a bit to get comfortable on the bike since you said this is your first bike.

And while louder pipes put a bigger smile on my face, I get just as many people trying to kill me with them as I did before I put them on.

Enjoy it, whichever route you choose.

Yeah, dropping it on them was a concern as well... easy enough to get a new tank panel on the 696... may wait for the termies when i bang the stock cans on that first drop...

Most of the people that are going to hear them are going to be behind me anyway, right?  And all i have to do to not get killed by them is stay ahead. Should be easy enough.  ;)

I don't know about a 696 but when I got my #1 S4Rs it was stock and I road it that way for about 600 miles. I then put a pair of Termi slipons on it and it was really loud in comparison and I noticed a pickup in torque . When I had the full Termi Exhaust ,DP ECU and open Airbox done the sound was even louder. much more like an angry wild beast and the torque and over all speed increased quite noticeably. It was enough to cause me to be concerned that I should be mindful of my application of the throttle in certain places. Stock, the S4Rs is widely accepted to have 117 hp at the rear wheel . Most people who have done the full Termi Exhaust and have had their bikes Dynoed have reported 130+ hp at the rear wheel. I hope this in some way helps you with your 696 question.Your bike will run louder and better with the Termi or any free flowing full exhaust with the Catalytic Converter removed the engine will be tuned for the freeer flowing exhaust and without the Cat to impede the flow of the exhaust you'll burn fuel more efficently and rapidly which will translate to more sound and power.

The perf. difference just changing the slip ons is negligible.

The perf. difference by adding the full or race kit (ecu, open airbox, termis) is pretty noticeable across the board.

+2.  If you change just the exhaust and/or intake, you're likely to lose performance.  If you add a new ECU (PCIII, RB3, or whatever floats your boat) to provide the correct fueling to match the other modifications, it will be a huge transformation.   At least that was my experience with the S2R1K, but yours may be diferent.

Just my 2 cents ...  but I'll bet you will notice more of a seat-of-the-pants change in pulling power by going to the 14t sprocket than by adding the Termis.

And don't expect the loud pipes to save lives. You will soon learn that not only are most cage drivers blind...they are also deaf!   [bang]  Ride like you are invisible.   [moto]

Just my understanding...Not a whole lot of hp increase for the most part...however, it is the weight.  Every 7 pounds equates to 1 hp....this said...the stock pipes weigh about 15 lbs. and changing to Termis gives about a 2hp increase.
I love my Termis, well worth the money....for the sound alone!!!!
