So Zach just thought he was going to build a 1911.  I have now taken over the project and decided it will be my new gun  :-*  I just had to promise to not paint it pink.

We hand lapped the slide to the frame yesterday.

Now it is time to order the barrel.  I can't decide if I want to go with the traditional bushing design or go with a bushingless bull barrel.

Sweeeet!

Zach in time out over the 1911 build. [laugh]

I've got a couple of bull barrel 1911s. One an "Officers" length the other a 5" full size Gov't. I'm an old fart/old school so I tend to lean toward the traditional set up. But I honestly have never had any complaints over the 2 bull barrel pistols I have.

Screw it... paint it pink! The bad guy will think you're kidding when you pull it on him and that will be his last thought! [laugh]
I plan to list the Federal Gov't. as a dependent on my next 1040 tax filing!

I have flying honey badgers and I'm not afraid to use them!

The fact that flame throwers exist is proof that someone somewhere said "I'd sure like to set those people over there on fire but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

CONFIDENCE: the feeling you have right before you understand the situation.

In the grip area?

Weight savings for the user.

Money savings for the manufacturer.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

Yes, the wife gently talked me out of this particular project  [laugh]  I'm now looking at a 1911 in 460 Rowland.

10 bonus points for your team. ;D My wife has yet to learn the "gentle" method of talking me out of anything. [laugh] [laugh]

Hmmmm... .460 Rowland 1911. Sounds interesting. [popcorn] Just don't let the wifely unit find about the new project. ;D

I usually carry a .44mag while offroading in CO, but really wanted something easier to conceal.  10mm was my first choice, then I found the 460  [evil]

Some of us either live or play in areas where the beasties require serious firearms.
I've had a brown bear in our yard more than once. (found tracks and scat)
A conclusion is the place you got tired of thinking

if you have a bear in your back yard, you need more than a pistol.

I've got a 460 Rowland kit.  I worked with Mr. Rowland and Jimmy Clark on some light bullet loads.  I swaged a special polymer tipped 125 grain 45 bullet we got right at 2000 fps with.  I don't really like pushing that much pressure in typical semi-auto handguns - eventually something will let go no matter what kind of gimmick we use to make it seem like a good idea.  I've had a couple power disassemblies  of firearms - they are expensive and they hurt.

The Rowland/Clark conversion with the comp really doesn't kick that bad.  Certainly nothing like a 44 or even a hot 10mm without a comp.  The 125 grain loads I came up with had virtually no muzzle lift at all (go figure).  Noisy!

I'll see if I have some of the bullets laying around yet and post a pic.
This isn't a dress rehearsal for life - this is it!

We get lots of black bear around my family's cabin near Cimarron, NM. Had them on the front porch a few times and have had to drive them away from the Suburban by banging on a cooking pot with a metal spoon so we could leave.

The wifely unit and junior are kind of scared of them but are also drawn to them because they are really cool critters. They mean no harm, just looking for picnic baskets like Yogi the bear. ;D She insists I carry when we are out and about trout fishing. I tote my G23, they aren't that big so that's plenty of gun. I also make her and the kiddos carry those small, compressed air horns that folks use at sporting events. That way they can alert me if I don't have them in sight and it would probably scare the bear aware too.

My brother fly fishes in the back country of Alaska and he totes  a .44mag on his hip. Of course he's worried about grizzlies not smaller black bears.
