i wouldn't strip the gun to do that.  look into a baked on coating like Lauers Duracoat.  plenty of colors too.   it is absurdly durable.

I've used it to coat heads and cylinders on Ducatis with great success.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

I called an anodizer and asked what to do.  They use Sodium Hydroxide to strip mistakes off, and that just happens to be what Easy Off is.  He recommended soaking it in liquid drano which is apparently the same stuff.

This was after spraying it down, waiting 5 minutes, then wiping off.

AR: Cool. Guess that's why that stuff kicks ass on oven grunge! [thumbsup] What color does she want?

1911: Never shot one of the Ed Brown Bobtails. Should be an interesting project. Did I ever ask the caliber question?
I plan to list the Federal Gov't. as a dependent on my next 1040 tax filing!

I have flying honey badgers and I'm not afraid to use them!

The fact that flame throwers exist is proof that someone somewhere said "I'd sure like to set those people over there on fire but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

CONFIDENCE: the feeling you have right before you understand the situation.

The 1911 will be .45. I have no idea what color the AR will end up being. We will experiment on bar stock first. Then it will be engraved, anodized, and a form 1 sent in.

I wouldn't have bothered removing the anodized layer.  Duracoat is far superior in every way to anodizing and all you'd need to do is scuff it a little with 0000

You can do a lot with ano. Maybe he wants to something funky.
I'll agree that Duracoat is more durable, but you can do some amazing stuff with ano.

Here are two paintball guns I had anoed over ten years ago. They still look like new and haven't faded one bit. Ano that has faded is bad ano. High quality stuff wont.

those look pretty cool.  Duracoat is easier to work with.  No chemical baths and no special setup, apply like paint and bake it on.

If duracoat came in metallic then I would have used it  [thumbsup]  Sometimes the easiest path in life is to just give your wife something shiny.

Yeah, limited options there.  I've used Aluma-Hyde for that.

Well said. [thumbsup] But I have managed to even fail with that simple truism in the past. I'm obviously doing it wrong. [laugh]

The Bearded Duc

Hey guys, totally off track of what's being talked about over the past couple pages but.....

I'm in the market for a handgun for home defense/zombie deterrence, I feel like I've narrowed my choices down to either a Sig Pro 2022 or an FNP, both chambered in 9mm. Both of these have been chosen due to price, hand feel, and aesthetics. I had the chance to shoot a few sigs (239, 226, 229) and love them. I haven't had the chance to shoot an FNP though. They both seem comparable in weight and both feel pretty damn good in my hand so...

Thoughts on these two pistols?

Or other recommendations (I'd like to stay at a price point of $500 or lower)?
