I'm actually going with an XLR Industries stock.  No bedding to deal with  ;D  A remmington receiver is likely.  I need a rifle with more balls than a .308.  I have killed a buffalo with the .308, but I felt like it was just enough.

Buffalo or bison?

Yeah, that's a huge jump in projectile weight and power.

Bison should be easily taken with pretty much anything in the 308 range or 7mm magnum..  If you're talking about a cape buffalo, you'll need something 338 or 375 range for a quick kill.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

Sorry, bison.  I would want a .50bmg for cape buffalo  [laugh]

depending on the distance of your shot, 308 should be ok but I might want something with a flatter trajectory.  7 mag or 300 win mag for instance, preferably with a 200-220 gr projectile for bison.   7 mag might be too light though, i think that tops out at about 180 gr.

3 shock waves?

Can you elaborate for me?  This is not something I know much about.

1.  bang
2.  bolt hits rear of receiver
3.  bolt hits barrel face/front of receiver.

on large bores, that bolt is a big chunk of metal.

For quality scopes at a decent price try the Zeiss Conquest models.  American made with German glass.  I have a 3-9x40 on my LTR and it's great.

Does it have a rail at all?  If not, where is the optic mounted?  To the "carry handle"?  If so, can't really see how that would get in the way of the charging handle.

But as far as the gas blowback issue goes, give this a try:
http://www.laruetactical.com/gas-buster-charging-handle-big-latch

Wrong terminology (mine)....it has the rail no handle.  Cupcake said the obvious thing, just move the damn thing forward.  I'll check out the charge handle, hopefully that will improve the blow-back issue.

Thanks!

Here is a much cheaper alternative than buying a $90 charging handle.  I use this DIY method on my suppressed AR's, and it works great  [thumbsup]

Is the problem the mating surface between the gas tube and the gas key?

Seems you could fix it by tweaking the gas key or reswaging the gas tube

I plan to list the Federal Gov't. as a dependent on my next 1040 tax filing!

I have flying honey badgers and I'm not afraid to use them!

The fact that flame throwers exist is proof that someone somewhere said "I'd sure like to set those people over there on fire but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

CONFIDENCE: the feeling you have right before you understand the situation.

This hasn't been discussed in a while. But I have several rifles and pistols that badly need cleaning from last weekends shootin'-fest at my friend's west TX ranch. If not today then for sure over this weekend... it needs to get done.

Just wondering what everyones favorite gun cleaning "stuff" is... bore cleaner, lube, etc.?

I'm an old died in the wool Hoppes #9 guy, Dewey rods, assorted brand cotton patches and brass brushes, Breakfree, Remington Rem oil spray, Birchwood Casey Gun Scrubber spray to finish it all off, even have some Wilson Combat heavy lube in a "syringe type" applicator I like to use on slide rails.

I recently bought a can of Gunslick Pro foaming bore cleaner. Haven't tried it yet but I have read reports on similar bore foam products. You spray it down the bore, it foams up, works on the powder/copper grunge, wait 15 minutes and swab it out. I'll try it on a couple of guns and compare it to my old Hoppes #9 technique. Anyone else use this type of foaming bore cleaner? Comments, thoughts? [popcorn] [bacon]

PS   Anyone have the new Surefire high-cap AR magazines? I shot two of my 60 rounders this last weekend and they ran like a freight train! [thumbsup] The 100 rnd mags are just too long for me. The 60s aren't so bad. No worse than regular 30s or maybe a Beta C-mag... at least in hang down length. That's what she said! [laugh] [laugh]

I use Rem-Oil, Montana Extreme bore/copper cleaner, and Mobil One to lube.

I think it's all weasel piss anyway. ;D

I make my own general cleaner - just do a search for "Eds Red".  It is a great general gun cleaner.  You probably have all the ingredients in the garage.  Its cheap and very effective.  For some heavily carbon fouling - carb cleaner works pretty good.

For copper removal, I have found that KG-12 Big Bore cleaner is far and away the best copper solvent I have tested - I have tested a LOT of copper solvents.  I use regular Hoppes #9 for bore flushing after copper removal or after using some of the abrasive type bore cleaners for extremely fouled bores.
This isn't a dress rehearsal for life - this is it!

Ed's Red is an interesting one, I have made it and used it, but too much effort for me nowadays.

Hoppe's Elite is a non toxic cleaner, water soluble and not too expensive.  Eezox will lift most crap and float it off.

KG12 is the shit for copper fouling.
