They have.

Firearms sales have been at record levels for months.

All those people are buying ammo...22 or any caliber.

Then you have the hoarders and the opportunists.

The system is maxed out.

Stay calm...it will settle down.

That's the way it seems to me and that's what the associate said. Jeez... only 5 boxes since before Thanksgiving! Insane. [bang]

Again, why hasn't production caught up with demand. I can guess where it's all going but why haven't the makers kicked it into 6th gear with the throttle pinned?

Manufacturers only have so much capacity and so much ability to increase capacity in a short time.

Its hard to get ahead when orders are at a 5000% level.

I talked recently with a software guy that has his product at Sig sauer on their cnc machines. He said they have a half billion or billion (been a while, either way, a lot) dollar back log. He said they cant buy cnc machines or hire workers fast enough.

So, what I'm getting at Brian, is that its not all about you

...and how long will the increased sales last?

Someone should make a graph with 22lr as currency and compare it to the dollar, euro etc ;D

My concern is what quality levels are being held with the rimfire ammo.  I have a goodly supply but I'd like to know I can replace what I use with ammo that is at least as good quality.
I am certain that the standards are sliding a bit with the demand the way it is.  I am more comfortable shooting centerfire I can reload right now than shooting rimfire.  I can get some powder
and most primers and I can swage or cast just about any bullet I need so right now, some centerfires make a bit more sense.  Weird situation.

As far as that new high speed 17 rimfire, details seem to be hard to come by yet.  Certainly sounds interesting!  That extra bullet weight and velocity will certainly make it a better killer on the larger varmints than the 17 HMR.  The HMR is a fantastic little caliber in a very narrow window but it is certainly not a versatile, general use cartridge.
This isn't a dress rehearsal for life - this is it!

My friends and I have discussed this too... ammo is the new currency! I'll trade you x cases of ammo for this job, etc.

I've been to a few machine gun shoots outside of Hot Springs, Arkansas years ago. Tons of fun! Wish I had the video tape of my ex-wife shooting a 1918 Browning belt fed gun on a tri-pod. Probably the only nice thing I remember about her. [laugh] [laugh]

For those who don't know, Turners Outdoorsman is hosting a shooting event this weekend. I made clips of the e-mail I got.
