I recently got a quote on a laser marking machine.  Fiber so it would mark steel.  It was in the 60's :P

Fiber lasers are big boy lasers that can mark anything. The can also do ablative engraving that actually removes material.

Tool shop down the road marked a US flag on the head of a .01" diameter pin. Under a scope it was clear as day.

Friend I've known forever has worked on laser manipulation machines nearly his whole career.
They're batshit crazy, the supermodel of industrial equipment.
UV lasers need lenses made out of a 'glass' that's more like soap.
They consume vast electrical power to make vast heat and a wee bit of light.

Worked at RCTA again last week training LEOs. I’m doing everything I can at this point to pass the knowledge I have. It went well, and eyes were opened. Hopefully they will continue to train hard.

Results of the qualification drill for my carry permit yesterday. Load mag with 5, shoot at first distance, eject and load 5, shoot at second distance, eject and load 5, shoot at third distance, eject.

Most carry qualifications I've heard about were 'hit paper with three rounds at close range' and done. Not with this instructor, LEO and military guy. Fun stuff, but a little more nerve wracking than normal range time (as it should be). Best part was when the guy told me, "perfect" as I finished up.

They don't worry about drawing from concealment here, they were concerned with proper and safe handling and operation. And hitting the target with all rounds. As I said, I've heard of other instructors being much less stringent. In my mind the guy I had was what I feel a carry instructor should be at a minimum.

I thought the FB targets was kind of funny....

The neck shot got him, and I assumed he was right handed so he wasn't going to get me with his weapon either.  ;D

First 5 are in the tgts right shoulder. Second 5 are low, last 5 in the red.  ;)
