Day 4 is in the books. They’re slowly getting into a groove. We had 2 night sessions this week as well. Tomorrow will be a short day for them. They’ll shoot an array of CTE drills (Critical Task Evaluations). Stress test will be on Saturday. We will set it up after they leave. Then a couple 3 of the instructors will validate it.

Ok, so we setup the stress test yesterday and the instructors validated it. I added in a few new scenarios and it was no joke. Times were between 3-5mins today when the students ran it. Several of them are wishing they trained more often right about now. No worries, we’ll work it out. Now it’s onto the meat and potatoes of this mission. Your level of CQB is driven by your level of marksmanship. This mission has to be trained at nauseam to get really proficient at. I’ll be doing everything within my power to pass on decades of experience to the youngsters. I lived and breathed it for a long time. Actually, haven’t really stopped.

Needed to get back to my ‘safe space’ today. Ran the 48 pretty hard today. Multiples with wide transitions and of course a bunch of mag changes. (Put a different slide release from GS on it) Ran a little over 300rds through it at a no bullshitting around pace. It was hot enough at one point to fry a finch egg on the slide.

Getting close to my 5k round test number on the G48. Ran it pretty hard today, and it’s a damn good little gun. Hopefully it’s not gonna take too long to build the 1911, cuz I’m getting antsy.

Ran 300ish rds through the 48 today. Lots of multiple tgt indexing, with mag changes mixed in. I don’t round count and I vary my loads so I’m forced to react to what happens instead of a ‘set’ drill. I do do those as well depending on what my sorry ass needs to work on. FFF

Finished up with the boys yesterday. 4 separate live fire hits to include explosive exterior and interior breaching. Had two UH-60’s and all the tgts were fast rope infills. I had a make the beast with two backsing blast advising for this class, and there’s definitely gonna be some changes. “You'll never find out about yourself working in some make the beast with two backsing factory in Ohio.”

Back at it today. Ran it pretty hard, pushing my ability level, and working hard on my processing speed. 300ish rounds of 147gr. This 48 is a sweet shooting little gun.

Finally got my mongrel .243Win AR to the range for initial run-in, went without a hitch. I think I like it. Put 10/10 inside a 6" circle with the cheap flip-up open sights with my shitty eyes at 50 yards, seems promising. Can't wait to get some glass on it and see what it can do at a distance. I love it when a plan comes together.

I thought Nic did a great job, but that movie was make the beast with two backsing terrible.

Oh, and I don’t get paid to shoot. My ammo bill sits between $6-800 a month. Even when I was advising for the boys recently, I shot my own ammo. The Army shoots that 115+p 9mm. Way to hot for training.

Not sure on glass yet, but it needs to be cheap.  Thinking something in the 3-12x40 neighborhood at the moment.

I've been hearing good things about Vortex stuff, but am wide open. Looked at a Nikon the other day that was nice, almost seemed to be too good a bargain.

That's a healthy monthly ammo tab.

Vortex makes decent glass, but don’t go ‘cheap’ on your glass. Folks make that mistake a lot. They’ll put good money into the gun, then go cheap on glass. Not a good plan.
