GUN STUFF

They make nice stuff.  My wife and I shot with Rob A. in the late '80s when they were first making targets.  I have been shooting Biathlon with his brother the last couple of years.  Good people.  I think they made the biathlon target sets for us too.

I assume that's Robert in the website videos?

The last batch I got were the T520/AR500 steel targets and they are holding up much better than the AR400 targets I had in the past. Of course there is a good reason the older ones didn't "hold up" too well. The yahoos who ran the school I used to teach tactical/defense shotgun at would snatch my IPSC and Pepper Popper targets when I wasn't around and drag them over to the long gun ranges and tear them up with rifle rounds. I told the owner to leave my damn targets alone and don't let assholes shoot them with rifles. They were fine for pistol and shotgun only. Well, he just kept doing it anyway and the plates ended up with holes punched in them! Can you say f#@ked up targets? Can you also guess why I walked away and never went back? Bozos...

OK... back to gun stuff. ;D

Sorry to bust in off topic, but has anyone had any dealings with TriStar shotguns.  I have a chance at a really good deal on an O/U Mag Hunter.  It would be cool to have an over/under that would chamber 3 1/2's, but didn't want to drop $1300 on the Browning.

TriStar's OU shotguns are made by Huglu of Turkey and are a very good deal.  The Turks have a LONG history of weapon/gun design and manufacture.  You can go to gun shops in Istanbul and see stuff that never makes it over here -- they make some very fine looking weapons.

Century Arms used to import the Huglu shotguns and I handled one at a range that a friend brought.  It functioned very well and the finish was excellent.  They are not as ornate as the similar offerings from Beretta or Browning, but that's part of what you pay for.  I would buy one.

There is also an official importer, HugluUSA. here is a review of a SxS shotgun

***edit, Tristar sells shotguns from Turkey AND SPAIN.  I am not familiar with the Spanish guns, but Spain also has a weapon tradition, although not as nice as Belgium's or Germany's.  I would ask them where it's made.  I would buy the Turk gun, but I'd want to look at the Spanish gun first.  I have antique Spanish stuff that is awesome, but the modern stuff is so-so (Llama pistol anyone?)

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

I'd love to check those out. Never handled one before but you've peaked my interest. I'm a big o/u fan. Have several Winchester 101s and a few s/s Win 23s. Love them both. [thumbsup]

Most if not all of the shotguns marketed by CZ are made by Huglu also.  They look pretty good.  They are not a Beretta 686 but they don't cost like one either.  I sort of like their lightweight over under - they are reasonably priced and handle good.

That is the main issue with shotguns - fit and feel is everything.  Even if it is an off brand cheapy, but is reliable and fits the individual - its the tool for the job.

At a gun show now

Anyone know about a stevens 350 12 gauge pump?

There's a new one here for 279 but I can't find this exact gun on the net. It looks well made but I didn't buy because I don't know anything about them.

There's a couple ruger sr9c's here [drool]

Should have mentioned this is a pump action, 18" barrel, 5+1, and I believe its a bead front sight only.

they are decent guns.  no expandable tube, considered a budget gun, but still reliable.

Would I be right in feeling like for 280 & tax I could have an 870 for only another $50 or so?

And that would be better...

870 has more aftermarket options available.  it would be worth it to me.  they are equally good shotguns out of the box, but the 870 has FAR more options available.
