Drkwng,

you mean the wrongly loaded mag? ...

And the simple irony that the picture was from an add that HK ran a while back.
And the sugar fountain fairy swore so hard when she came to super-size that stale hope soybean; liiiike a homeless German woman. Who is this super-sizing spirit-crushing femme? And tell her I'll break a tree root up in her shrimp.

Being faster than you thought possible…it feels good. No, screw thatâ€"it feels like shotgunning a gallon of adrenaline and chasing it with an all-night orgy aboard a burning Viking boat.

Yes I saw that, but, at the time my caffeine-less mind knew there was something wrong but couldn't name it ...

I see those guns everytime I get to Miami International and must say they shoot real nice, yes, with the bullets loaded the right way

On another note, just spent two days at my property in east TX. Got back last night. Junior was driving me crazy to bust some caps. But it was 102 degrees, not a cloud in the sky and no breeze. [bang] I've got a big dirt pile as a berm between the barns (a safe distance from the house) with an array of three .22 caliber spinning targets and a couple of Arntzen free standing steel IPSC plates, 1 regular and 1 half size. Well we just backed up our set up spot about 10-15 yards to get under some tree shade and had at it.

He had his choice of his 10/22 or Henry lever action .22 rifles. For handguns it was SA 1911 with a Wilson Combat .22 conversion, Ruger MkII bull barrel, Ruger Bearcat, S&W Model 34 kit gun/4", my .357 mag slicked up S&W Model 65 (shootin' .38s) and one of my 5" Les Baer .45acp 1911s. He wouldn't go near the Les Baer. [laugh] A bit too much for him I guess. But I put 50-75 rounds through it between his reloads and breaks.

Yeah, it was hotter than hell but he had a great time. He's only 14 but he's a darn good shot, takes it very seriously and is safer than most adults that have gone through my old classes or folks in CHL renewal classes I have attended. Good times! [thumbsup] Nice way for him to celebrate the 4th! Like he said, this is better than fireworks. ;D
I plan to list the Federal Gov't. as a dependent on my next 1040 tax filing!

HK makes some decent stuff, but I hate the triggers on their handguns.  I'd take an older Sig over an HK any day.

that's why I'm keeping my  P229 ... in .40 .... just need to replace grips screws ...

would you recommend to replace the 'green' sights to orange/red or should I keep the OEM ones for better sighting in the dark?

No they haven't started to fade, but since this will become my personal defense/competition gun...  I was asking ...

It's impossible for anyone other than yourself to say what you should go with.  Figure out which sights you can get on target with quickly and reliably, in a high-stress environment, and stick with those.

that's the thing, I've tried a P228 with orange/red sight during competition and regular use at the range and found targets easier but at low light/night situations ... red front sight sort of 'mixed' with streets lights ... and wouldn't glow for long ... my guns sleeps right by my side, bullet loaded

I'm teaching a women and junior beginner rifle class next weekend - one of my all-time favorite things to do.  Can't wait!

Everyone is different and I try to keep my class sizes down to 4 or 5 so my wife and I can work with them as individuals instead of a one size fits all program.

If I have people that are pretty intimidated, I have an H&R M12 Target 22 I bought from the CMP at Camp Perry a couple of years ago.  It weighs about 12 lbs and has a 28" wedding prick barrel.  I have an old Unertl 15X 2" Ultra Varmint Scope on it so it weighs about 16 lbs.  I put it on a secure rest and position a seat at the right height and position so they can easliy access the controls and put them on a big target at 50 or 100 yards.  I use subsonic ammo, so the noise out of that long tube is really not at all threatening.  That 15X Unertl at 100 yards allows you to see the bullet climb up through your line of sight and drop down into the target.  The gun is foolishly accurate and nearly shoots itself.  Once they have some confidence and success with that, I transition them to the larger, noisier stuff.  Its a great way to set people up for success and then build on it.

I think one of the psychological things about that big 22 is that it looks enormous and threatening and once they realize that they can work with it, other different guns are no longer a big deal mentally and the transitions come a lot smoother.
