I doubt it's an issue as far as performance.

Useta be a flathead powered gassed named "Willie's Pie Wagon" that ran at San Diego and Lion's that flowed a lot.  Don't know what his secret was but he knew how to build flatheads.  Blown Chevies only occasionally managed to beat him.
