Snap a pic. Janney was a much bigger structure, but an 1864 raid destroyed all but the chimney.

I will one of these days. It isn't huge because it only crosses a small brook, but the hunks of granite are pretty impressive.

Yeah, pretty much.  It all went bad when they started driving those steel piles. 


The city has a big hand in redeveloping the large corner parcel surrounding this building.  Apparently "somebody forgot" to bring in the structural engineers to study the one building that was to remain.  Buzz from the locals is this was intentionally overlooked.  I sincerely hope this is not the case but we all know how bureaucracy works  [roll]  :-X

The extra space they get for parking, or a boutiquey strip mall when the city condemns that old building was worth the payoff. the luxurious apartmenters will need their Starbucks and shopping close by. ;)

Here's perhaps one last look at a Schenectady landmark.  Remodeled in 1901, it originates from the 1820's.
