I was in Asheville, NC having dinner with a local rider and his wife when a ruckus started outside the restaurant.  Smoke was pouring out of the parking lot and so we went out to investigate and offer help. 

Turns out someone was trying to get a jump but they hooked up the wires wrong: black to red and red to black!  The cables got so hot they melted the rubber insulation: you can see them glowing orange-red across the front of the black car (it's actually dark green) in the center of the photo!  After we were able to detach the lines, the batteries seemed okay but the cables burned through the plastic of both cars' front fenders.
