By a stroke of vigilance, my GF spotted a local event, The Owl-O-Ween Open House at the Ojai Raptor Center <http://www.ojairaptorcenter.org/>.
They take in ~1000 orphaned/injured/in-need wild critters every year, and successfully rehabilitate and release 75-80% of them back into the wild.
We stopped in to see what the deal was, unfortunately I had an extreme brain cramp and forgot to take my real camera.
I did manage to get some not-too-dodgy cellphone pics of most of their Education Ambassadors, who were surprisingly willing to tolerate the throng of mammals.
Interesting factoids; owls have twice as many neck vertebra as us humans, which are additionally enhanced for better performance than run of the mill vertebra, so thus they can rotate their heads +/- 270 degrees.
Which is handy as their eyes are fixed relative to their skulls.
Additionally, one ear is high, the other low, such that they can locate sounds both in traverse and elevation.

Yeah, I should have had some interesting factoids about the hawks, kites, and falcons.
No disrespect intended towards those raptors.
