Just joined. From NYC, complete novice rider, planning on taking my MSF shortly and then picking up a Monster 696 in the Spring. In the meantime looking to learn as much as possible on the forum.

Welcome to the DMF and to riding!    Taking the MSF is a great way to start.

When you get a chance, stop in and introduce yourself to your local group, NYMMC.
