I'm out of the expectant father club, my son was born new years eve.

6lbs 15.8oz

He already likes the Allman Brothers, Eric Clapton, and the exhaust note of Nicky Hayden's 2010 series bike

[thumbsup]

Congratulations! You can't go wrong with ABB and Clapton. I can't wait to watch the races with my little man.

We've been playing music on her belly. He moves a lot when we put on the Grateful Dead, Beethoven, and the Beach Boys. I still can't get over how bazaar it is to feel a baby kicking in her tummy.

Congrats Z!

LaZ...I bought wife gadget that let's is hear baby's heart and comes with CD for baby to listen to. Comes with classical but we'll have to add a few other acts.

Christ....I don't know how I'm we're going to get through July?! Total buzzkill when we were in sono this morning watching baby kick and look at right at us!  Then doctor comes in with statistics and chances for birth defects increasing due to age, etc. I want to be happy right now  but can't focus on anything but key words that he was throwing out there like Downs, etc.
Just have to be optimistic. I don't know if having all this technnology is a good or a bad thing?!?

How far along is she? They were able to tell us shortly after her 20 week ultrasound that everything looked good. Not sure how concrete that information is but she said that he definitely didn't have down syndrome.

approx 12 weeks. Supposed to have CVS performed today but Dr f'ed up the hx so have to do amneo at 15 weeks to see if baby is ok. Was upset at first about the set back but it'll be better. Just have to play waiting game. It was cool when the tech was tapping on my wifes belly and made it bounce around a bit. He/she took a look right at us on the screen and it the position of the hand looked like it waved. Pretty amazing being able to see in there!

as i have tried very hard to put the traumatic visuals and sounds from the births ( yes 3 )
behind me, all i can say is that the epi she gets is not for her, its for all the people within ear shot.
the wife got an epi for the first but decided to get all Rambo "natural" for the next 2. natural was faster as the epi relaxed her so much it added about 6 hours to the process.
congrats to all who are having or just added a member to the family.

Dude-it'll be alright. Stop spazzing.

Yeah, it can be kind of gross I suppose.  With my kids from my first marriage I was really queasy and nauseated, and nearly passed out from the sight.

And that was just the conception.

The only memory I want from this is walking in from the waiting room and seeing a healthy baby in my wife's arms after the whole thing is done!!   I don't need any visuals.  No pictures.  No video!!

IZ... I know this is the "father" thread but I wanted to chime in here. How old is your wife? The idea of Down's is scary, but let me help with your perspective...

At age twenty she had a 99.95 percent chance of not delivering a baby with Down syndrome; at age thirty-five her chances of not delivering a baby with Down Syndrome are 99.75 percent.  Even at age forty-five she has a 97 percent chance of delivering a baby without Down Syndrome.

So, does that help your outlook a lil'?

When I was pregnant, on one of the ultrasounds they found what is called a choroid plexus cyst on his brain. The hospital called me and told me it could cause heart problems, and I needed to see a genetic councilor. Needless to say, I was terrified because I had no idea what it was. After some research, I realized that they are pretty common and typically go away in the 3rd trimester. There is a relation to trisomy 18, but it is small. I gave birth to a healthy baby and those cysts didn't show up in any more ultrasounds. (PS, the cysts DONT cause heart problems, the nurse had no idea WTF she was talking about...)

My point in that is that while technology is amazing and helpful sometimes, other times it only serves to scare.

Good luck and congrats!

You had to bring the smells into it didn't you?

Why in the hell would a doctor do that? Geez! Molly's doctor (who is friggin' awesome) told us to ignore any stats and just relax. Statistic are just numbers to make you worry.

Try not to worry about it. Molly (34 at the time) had a very difficult pregnancy and all turned out perfect.  [thumbsup]  I won't bore everyone here with the details, but PM me if you're interested.

Here's Hayden...trying to figure out what he should terrorize next at daycare!  [evil]

...and congrats to all the new parents-to-be.  [thumbsup]

Thanks J!  I read your post on the BB and never responded.  Didn't see the pic.  Hayden looks just like his dad!!

We're feeling better about everything now and put the doctor's comments out of our minds.  Now we're just thinking about WTH we're going to do after the maternity leave is over?!  I'd like for the s/o to stay home but that can't happen.  She has a good job with benefits and getting great experience.  This is when I really would like to be close to family/friends again in a small town.  Hoping my mom will do 6 months here and 6 months back in Michigan.  My sister is having another baby next month but she has a great daycare person.

We've been doing a lot of window shopping at the baby stores.  So far..a few clothing items, a pack-n-play and a rocking chair.  MUST BUY PIPES SOON cuz this "kiddie-stuff" is going to add up really quick when it comes along.  :o
