Maybe old info but anyway:

QuoteI simply unplugged the original cluster and plugged the newly received one and VOILA !
Everything worked !

Is this true?

I have both an immobilized ECU and a different gauge cluster on the way...I will post the results within a week (hopefully)

doesn't sound right as far as I know the immobilizer is in the gauge cluster and not the ecu...

Mojo S2R

The immobilizer is in the gauge as you say but the major thing that people who get their ECU re-flashed do is to have the immobilizer done away with which also allows them to completely change to a different gauge without immobilizer.  I would guess that the ECU talks to the immobilizer but if that part of the ECU is flashed out then the immobilizer becomes a moot point.  I would check out all the ECU re-flash threads to verify.

A re-flashed ecu will run a bike WITHOUT an instrument cluster if you wanted...

BTW, there's also a wiring harness difference between the 'dual' and 'single' gauges.  Dual being '02-'08 Monster, Sport Classic & SS.  Single being 999/749, HM, '04-'09 MTS.  Can't swap those gauges between single & dual without addressing the wiring differences.

From the threas I mentioned above:

QuoteBut, someone told me :''The S4 has the imobiliser mounted on thr front of the airbox. It is not part of the ECU''.

True or false?

May be true for '01 S4, but I haven't seen it with my own eyes.
Definitely not true for '02 S4.

'01 S4 wiring diagram shows the Immobilizer as a separate component.
But...... wiring diagram isn't a very reliable source for how the actual hardware is configured.

Heard today fr most reliable source (ECU wizard who works w chip Emulator, Tunerpro etc)
that on S4 & ST4, where Immo is outside cluster, you can just switch instruments.

Can anyone confirm this? I'll take a look at mine tomorrow but I'm not entirely sure of what I should be looking for

I realize this is an old topic, but I'm going through the process of updating my Gauges. I have a 2000 model S4, and according to the factory manual at least, the S4 differs from later monsters regarding the immobilizer. in the S4, the immobilizer is separate from the gauge cluster.

After reading hundreds of posts and dozens of threads on the subject, I thought I was up for an ECU flash or replacement, plus the cost of gauges for my S4.
Lucky for S4 owners, you can be spared. However, I am led to believe that S4R and S4RS contain the immobilizer in the gauge cluster.
Unfortunately I can't upload the two pages from the factory manual - pm me if you need them
