I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.

If AMG/Mercedes buys Ducati then the bikes will be more expensive than their Japanese counterparts and the maintenance costs will be really high.

I own several motorcycles. I have owned lots of motorcycles. And have bolted and/or modified lots of crap to said motorcycles...

I rode an AMF-Harley for ten years (well... rode it for 3, fixed it for 7) and this is one consonant too close for comfort to me.
