My country's authorities say it's fine, but to avoid the big cities.
If it was me, I would stay away - nothing destroys a holiday like tear gas and rubber bullets :-\
It has probably cooled off in four weeks, but I would think Italy and maybe Greece will be nicer?

In four weeks, Egypt could be back to normal or be run by an Ayatollah.  You just don't know at this point.

Hosni Mubarak says he is firing his cabinet  [roll] but I think we'll see lots more blood in the streets before there is quiet.

I wouldn't, but then again I have an israeli passport!

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

I would consider checking the Travel Advisories of other nations as well and try to get an overall sense of the picture

This is an insult to the Pez community

  Hey Vin,
If you can wait a couple of weeks before you have to make all your plans final ...I'd sit tight and see how things go as far as Egypt.

hell Germany isn't exactly off the danger list.

but going into a country that could be in the middle of conversion to a much more conservative/religious government... not high on my list of places to go.

let alone a country that has a history of tourists killed or kidnapped for being westerners.

Hopefully your travel package has travel insurance so you won't lose money if you cancel your trip.

With the Egyptian government blocking the information from leaving the country, we really have no idea what is really going on over there!

Right now is not the time to be enjoying that place.

One of my friends just got back from there two weeks ago. Good timing on his part.  He did say it was his greatest vacation ever, but also just posted now that he apparently left just in time.

I say go elsewhere.

Was just watching Al J
50,000 in the streets in Cairo
many dead
Curfews are being broken
They are calling for Mubarak to step down also.

I hav e nothing to add but an opinion...and I would steer clear if it was my money. Last night on news the made a point to show the tear gas canisters had a "made in usa" labeled on it. I would not want to be standing neaby when one went off and be like..."oh hey, where's a good place to eat, we are visiting from the US."

+1 on avoiding Egypt right now. Rent The Battle of Algiers and see if you'd like to be an extra.

That really sucks for your holiday plans that the people finally stood up to their government now and not two months from now or ten years ago. Stay safe.

Especially given the results of revolutions in the mid east.  Ugh

That all depends on if you're a big boy who can deal with the consequences (good and/or bad) from you're own choices.  That means if you go there and have a good time and nothing happens then you get to deal with that.  On the other hand if you get mugged and beaten then don't go crying to the world that someone should help you.  Deal with the responsibility of your freedom of choice like a grown up.
