What's the cutoff before the heat gets turned on?

Well, my feet are cold here in the office, and that's the warmest part of the shop.

I am just sitting here though, so of course I'd get cold.  Im thinking space heater soon.

Out there, i'll wait till the guys complain.  The machines expel a ton of heat and the guys are moving around a lot so that helps keep their temps up.

It's really only a matter of time before I have to cave and light the pilot.  Once it's in the 20's constantly I don't think we'll have much hope.  Im told the hallways get down into the 40's.  We keep all our man doors and garage doors (all lead to a hallway) closed but that will only work so long.

So, to answer your question, id say if its mid 50's in there, they'll start crying.  Gas would be a real expense here and the guys know that.  It's really up to them.  When they say the word, the heat goes on.

I don't think we'll let it go that far

Softy?

Puhleez.

If coolant froze that might damage a pump.  The mill pump would be cheap to replace.  The pumps on the lathes would be thousands of dollars to repair.

Homey don't play that

;D

You run a machine shop... make some 'block heaters' for the fluids and leave the heat off
;D

And don't give me any 'That will void the warranty' crap., Walk both ways, up hill...

Im not worried about the warranty.  They really cover things they should't IMO.

Some of the bigger machines come with chillers/heaters to maintain temp.  Not mine though.

I run a shop, Im not the wizard of oz [laugh]
