looks to be about the same kind of stuff as the sas-tech stuff...  i'm using one of the sas tech back protectors in my jacket right now and i like it a lot better than the forcefield one i have in my other jacket.

being able to mold to your back is alot more comfy and easier to manage than a rigid protector... though i have a funny feeling that the forcefield stuff might disperse more energy than the sas-tech.  almost all test i've seen has placed the forcefield stuff at the top and i havent seen any of the sas-tech in any comparison review yet.

I prefer the BMW Level 2 stand alone Back Protector or the BMW Level 2 Safety Jacket w, built in Back Protector.

I believe the stand alone came in 2nd to the T-Pro Force Field but I feel it's more comfortable plus has Collar Bone protection.

Wow, it's been a while since I've been to the d3o website. I see that they're using it in boxing gloves. That ain't gonna be so fun for the guy you're beating on. That stuff gets hard!

Where'd you see that Held and them have d3o products? I've only ever seen the Racer (French) brand stuff.

edit: Ah, I see them on the Partners page. The company websites don't list much in terms of d3o gear yet. It's good to see it getting around though.

Boxing gloves? jebus... that going to suck to be on the receiving side of. Boxing gloves were never intended to protect the punch-ee, just the puncher. But man, I'd think that putting stuff that turns hard into gloves is going to make for even hard hits (more energy transfer) than regular foamies...

Back on topic, Armadillo which makes protective Scooter wear is the only one I know of that uses the d3o stuff in the bulk of their line - but looks like other folks are catching on.

wouldnt the d30 stuff be kind of bad for boxing gloves?  i mean, for all kinds of impact protection, you're trying to increase the duration of the impact... hence, a large foamy boxing glove would slow it more and soften the blow to the boxer's hands...  but then the d30 stuff would just harden on impact and then create a harder surface to impact upon...

i can understand why it would be good to have in something that you cant fit a good amount of foam into... but not why you would do it for gloves like that unless it's maybe though mma gloves and you wanted a bit more protection?


ahhh... nm, i just watched the vid on the site... it's on the outside of the glove's padding and it's only a training glove, not a competition glove.

Well part of the goodness of this stuff is that impact energy is used to change the state of the d30 goo, so it's not just squishing it over a larger surface area, but actually absorbing some.

Haven't been to the website or seen the video, but I can see the application of it in at least mma gloves to further protect your wrists at the moment of impact but still provide necessary mobility for grappling
