Of course- Not saying the tabelts you have don't have a good place. Typing on an iPad definitely takes more work than a traditional keyboard - that's something I really don't like about them for writing more than just a little. But they can be handy boggers for some stuff, and I think they do mark a shift in how we'll see tech in the workplace deployed in the years to come.

-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

I agree - and for that, I'm very excited!!! I want several of those prototype wireless computer monitors (no power or video cable).  [thumbsup]

Many execs have been using their iPads around the office. I agree that for people like me, the iPad is useless at work for anything other than browsing and emails. If you soend your day looking at docs, spreadsheet and email, then it makes some sense to literally down size your PC to a tablet.

cute video, but the ipad2 definitely has at least one competitor concerned:

So they slimmed it down a bit, put in some cameras, and gave it a faster processor.  WOOOO!  At the end of the day, the cameras should have been there in the first place.  Down to 8.8mm from about 12? Meh.  What your left with is still a content consuming device... little more than a giant smart phone with no phone capabilities.  There's still no expandable storage.  Still no easily-replaced battery.  And, still no standardized I/O ports.  You have the App store, sure.  But compare the app store to the software suite available to the windows platform and it's laughable.

Tablets have been around for a long time, with better capabilities than the iPad will ever offer.  If I remember correctly, apple denounced the idea of a tablet forever, then came out with the iPad and the fanboys screamed about the innovations.  It's only funny because my doctor had been using a tablet for medical records for years before the iPad was even a twinkle in steve job's eyes.

I will say this, props to apple for the huge marketing success.

What I didn't like about the iPad, I still don't like about the iPad2.  It adds things to a laptop experience that I don't especially want or need (touch screen), and takes away things I do want and need (non-phone OS and a goddamn functional keyboard.)

But once it was out, I played with it a bit, and stopped frothing at the mouth, I am now of the opinion that this device is long overdue for a lot of users.  But still not for me.

I never understood why up until fairly recently people went out and dropped 2k on a PC in the name of "getting on the internet", "for the kids to do their homework" and "email".  This is like going out to buy a helicopter for your morning commute - way too expensive and complex for the need, but people did this because there were no car dealerships selling cars at the time.  I still don't understand why not having a keyboard is better (and yes, I know there is one you can attach) or why a phone OS is preferable to a superlative OSX but the iPad is exactly as much computer as some people need for all of their computing needs, or many people for specific computing needs.

I still kind of hate it for not being what I wanted it to be, but who am I to tell quintillions of happy iPad users they're wrong?

apple denounced netbooks, not tablets.

maybe you're unfamiliar with the device on the left, circa 1993:

What a complete waste of money that pad 2.  Wife has the first generation and she uses the thing to read books while on road trips and we watch netflix on it.  No memory card slot  [bang], same price  [bang] and just slightly thinner.......really?  If I ever think about getting one for myself I'm going to look at the Motorolla Xoom when they drop in price.
Can we thin the gene pool?

i think your expectations are likely unreasonable.

...the one you currently have is fine, but the new one w/ a dual core proc, (likely) more memory, cameras front and rear that's now also thinner than an iphone4 at the same price is "a complete waste of money"?

let's look at a chart:

looks like the ipad2 is $70 cheaper than a xoom.  if needed, you can get a memory card reader for the 'pad for $29 and a hdmi adapter for $39.

But getting the adapter means that in order to have your expanded memory, you have to have a cable hanging off of it... then if you want to watch that movie you have on your card on the tv with the HDMI capabilities you have to... wait... that means you cant.

So for $70 you get higher pixel density on a slightly larger screen, expandable storage, built in USB, built in HDMI, flash support, and 4g network capable.  At the expense of 130g (about a quarter pound) and 4mm of thickness.
