I call BS on noticing 4oz.  That is the weight of a king size snickers or a small orange.  A heroin chic hipster that hasn't eaten in 3 weeks might notice 4 oz ...

I commuted on my bike for a year and a half with a backpack.  I can assure you adding an apple (the kind you eat!) would not make a noticeable difference in my load.   You wouldn't notice 4oz in a breifcase either.

i meant "notice" in a how-the-make the beast with two backs-do-chicks-carry-this-much-shit-in-their-purses? kinda way...

it's nothing you can't manage (read: it won't keep you from carrying the damn thing around), but you would welcome it being lighter.

one of my biggest issues with the tablets is that they still require a computer somewhere for updates, loading media, etc...yet they appear to be aimed at people who dont use/need a complete computer, just a media consumption devide.

[this is my opinion, which i will not back up with any source material]

my ex has an iphone and no computer... her app/music/media library consists entirely of on-phone purchases. the only time she ever "needs" a computer is to do an OS upgrade, and she usually comes to my house for that. that said, she's still running 3.1.x on her 3G (hasn't upgraded to 4.x).

i've heard that an apple store will perform the upgrade for you, though i don't have first hand experience with the matter.

ipad should be the same as an iphone in that respect. you don't need a computer, but there are advantages to having one.

These are pretty slick for the iPad. Same company as the cases for the iPhone.

aside from the fact that it's shipping w/o lte support and a non-functioning microSD slot, it can't charge over usb? you have to carry a proprietary-port wall-wart charger with you when you travel. what were they thinking?

"A surprising number of promised hardware and software features are not functional at launch and will have to be enabled in future updates"

I'm sure they will update these issues.  I never said it was without it's problems but the pad needs it's own charger too.  Have you tried your iphone charger to charge it?   [coffee]

well, we've already discussed the lte issue, and the microSD issue is supposedly on the android side, but the charging thing baffles me.

no, the ipad doesn't require it's own charger, though it does come with one. the 'pad can charge via a dock-to-usb cable connected to either a computer or the charger.

i've mentioned it before, i don't have an iphone. i primarily charge my 'pad via usb connected to my imac. i think i've used the wall charger twice in 9 months.

Yep, works fine.

then both of you must have "special" chargers because if you use the wall charger the Iphone charger will NOT charge the Ipad, says incompatible on mine.  Two other friends have the same issue.  Via USB no problem at all though.
I'm not ready to drink the bottom of the kool aid jar yet.  :P

using an apple-branded, not-third-party iphone charger shows not compatible when charging an ipad?

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4060

iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter.

or, let's look at this another way:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4327

The iPad USB Power Adapter is a 10W charger. While designed for use with the iPad, you can use the iPad 10W USB Power Adapter to charge all iPhone and iPod models.

I didn't say third party.  Either way, until they make it with the trinkets I expect to get for that price and a USB card slot or the ability to tie-in a separate hard drive (downloaded movies), I'm not a fan.  Wife's happy but I require more.

i didn't say you did, i was attempting to clarify the situation.

as you can see, apple's own support site says it will work. maybe there's an issue w/ your iphone charger?

if it was me, i'd probably just use the 10w ipad charger for both devices.
