Open clutch cover

So I'm chatting with a mate today and he drops In conversation that a friend was recently booked on the Black Spur for having an open-faced clutch cover on his SF. Not "no cover", but the peek-a-boo variety that many of us have. Supposedly the officer said "A child could get their fingers caught in it" and he was given a canary. Yeah well what about this here chain thingamy that makes the wheels go whizz?.?.

Anyone heard of this issue before? I know that cops have regular blitzes on the Spur and book us for not having the full complement of 4 wheels, not being able to hear emergency vehicles with a helmet on or just plain being a rider in a public place, but this is a new one on me.

I bet if the rider went to caught and argued exactly the simple point you've made it would be dismissed.
Unless the Vic cops and Justice system are that stupid to want to book riders for such ridiculous things!!!

Maybe they smart-arsed their way into it, who knows but the implication is that some cops may view the open plates as an issue. Suppose the best way to possibly avoid it is to stop your engine ASAP so it's not turning over and attracting his attention.

I was gonna ask where they being smart arses? Usually a cop will pick on something(anything) they can if you zip past them at a great amount of knots and they didn't catch you on the radar or if you were trying to be Casey Stoner after he wins a race on one wheel.

A Friend of my son got booked last week $230 going to uni for having a cracked P plate on his CB125.  yes those cheap crappy P plate things the RTA give you

Not sure on the full story but he i have met the kid and he is no hoon and soft as ,not the one to give lip, and on a 125

I know the cops will get you for not having the H pattern sticker on your aftermarket car gear stick  knob,if they decide to be picky generally, if you been hooning etc.
Or other dubious mods to the vehicle. And give lip they have a feild day

police in general are a bunch with a little bit of knowledge that makes them dangerous.  the only angle I could see here about the open clutch cover is that you have modified the bike from standard and therefore made it dangerous, even though riding a motorbike full stop is dangerous.  just like when they defect cars, they actually dont know the ADR they are defecting it for, just the fact they have the power and whatever the car has looks like a defect.  Take this example I have seen:

Friend had a Rambler Hornet, big tyres on the back.  Pulled over by police and defect for tyres too big on a TD Cortina.  He argued it wasnt a Cortina and they said he had changed the badges to cover up.  Luckily they were around the corner from vehicle inspection point.  Rolls in there and inspection officer says "Nice Rambler Hornet".  Said police leave with tail between their legs.  You challenge them exactly on what ADR you are not complying with and 98% they would not have a clue.  They are working to revenue standards not safety enforcement.

The rear reflector thing is legit, the cops were apparently doing Vic registered bikes for missing reflectors or fender eliminators down the Supers (They were just giving out of towners a warning). Victorian Hwy coppers seem like real C*ntstables.

Sadly i have heard  of this twice, both in Vic.. 2nd one was at Wonthaggi on his way to WSBK.. said the coppa gave him a choice, a fine for the open clutch cover or excessive noise from the exhaust.. he chose the clutch.. they are becoming totally unreasonable, using the excuse it's a safety thing.. more like it's an excuse to issue a fine..
