Tall bars and stock brake lines/throttle cables?

Hi all, me again  [laugh]

I would like to swap out the bars on the wife's 2006 Monster 620.  She has fairly short arms and prefers a more upright riding position.  I'd like to get the bars about as high and rearward as reasonably practical.  The bars on the bike have seen better days and I don't care for the way they go forward then back, so I think new bars rather than risers is the way to go.

I'm quite a fan of Renthals for 7/8" applications and was thinking of their Road Medium or Road High bend bars (the High I've read on an old thread here is similar to the Monster City bar).  (specs here http://www.renthal.com/File/apps1.asp?tabtype=5&productid=0&appid=ROAD&zone=&biketype=&manufacturer=&model=&bikedate=).

Any idea if the high would fit with the stock cables and lines (I don't mind doing some re-routing if needed)?  If not, does anyone make longer cables/lines off the shelf or would I need to go custom?  I've read that the renthal mediums fit with stock lines so I might end up going that route then add risers later if it looks like there's space and she wants higher still.

The stock lines are at their very limit with the city bars.
it is possible to install them with some re-routing but you have to check that there is enough slack for movement lock to lock
i would plan to get new lines so you dont have to worry about it

Thanks, very helpful.  Any issues with the throttle cable or just the brake lines?  Any recommendations on where to source new lines?

-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

Thanks! I just ordered the renthal highs so will see how they fit and if they don't looks like its custom lines.

I can tell you for certain to be careful about the throttle cable. Added the 796 handlebar bracket to my monster 1100 (about 20mm rise), and had an exciting time with my first tight left turn. Pulled on the throttle cable and rev'd the motor. Rerouted the throttle cable and added a little play (it was too tight anyway), and reduced the turn radius using the steering stops and it doesn't pull anymore. This was with a rise of about 20mm, so if you're going higher you will likely need a custom throttle cable. Not sure about the brake. I didn't have any problems there.

Good luck.

Motion Pro (there in CA.) also makes custom cables, I just had a longer throttle cable made for a 696 $38.00 with shipping. Looks to be top notch quality.

Thanks, I will definitely be careful about the lines and cables.  Appreciate the tip on motion pro too  :)

I need to keep an eye on you it seems, we had to reroute the throttle cable on wife's 696 also with 1-1/2" risers and different handlebar.  Had to reroute inside the triple tree, don't think that is a good place to be as it tends to pinch the cable in lock to right.

Going for the longer cable also.  Thanks for the info.
