I gotta say that when I was up in the Northern IL/Southern WI area you pass a bike about every 4 minutes in the summer.  Waving starts to get silly. You may as well just ride along like the queen with one hand out thereby confusing the fug outta everyone thinking you are turning left.

I have found there are certain rules of engagment around my parts.

Harley rider will wave if (and only if) your on a Harley. Or a bike that looks like a Harley at closing speed. I have experianced the "aborted wave" from Harley guy when on my old virago. They'd start to wave, realize that I was on a yamaha, and quickly recind their gesture.

Goldwings will wave at anybody or anything for that matter. Hondas, Suzukis, Vespas, and road signs are all in play for him. Very friendly.

Sportbikers. Generally follows the guidelines for Harley guy. Does not wave unless you are riding something sporty. The other day one crossed my path while at a 4 way stop while I was on my supermoto, as he passed through in front of me, he slowed down, looked the street tard up and down, and gave me a big thumbs up and a nod.

BMW guy. Apparenly too busy handling all that german technology to wave at anyone.

Enduro riders are just happy to be on some pavement for change. More than happy to throw a wave at their two wheeled cousins.

Me? I pretty much follow the guidlines for goldwingers. I happily ride along waving at everybody like an idiot when I have the chance.

Nice set of sumo's you got.  Do you ride the KTM alot, from what I've heard, it is not recommended to put alot of street miles w/o the cush drive.  I was thinking of turning my CRF230 into a sumo but it would be too short with the 17's.

I wave up high to everyone.  No assumed political/social/popular posturing from a simple "howdy" wave up where everyone can see it.  If they don't wave back, well then- maybe they'll think about it and wave to the next rider.  /shrug

Trying to calculate the personality, brand/marque loyalty, stereotyped rider propensities for waving matrix is just riduculous.  Wave if you want to, don't wave if you don't want to.  You can't control the world and you wouldn't want everyone to think alike anyhow.  Live, ride, and be happy that you can.

the more i ride the less i wave lately.

If your riding everyday and see multiple bikes along the way waving gets old.

I got another wave back from a cop the other day. [leo] :)

I was out for a long ride today and probably passed 100 or more riders on two lane roads . I wave as often as I can and figure if they don't wave back I'm the better person for it. I was surprised at how many H-D riders waved at me as i was all geared up on my 1098 R. Maybe it was because I was going fairly slow , cops everywhere pulling people over.

wave, don't wave, whatever.   Sometimes i do, sometimes I don't.   I usually wave back... Unless I'm busy with the left hand or lost in thought...
on the harley guys though, at gas stations I seem to get a lot of "ducati's always made a nice bike" sentiment.  At least from the ones who seem to be in the know.....

up to the point that one gave me a set of ear plugs today

I wave @ everyone , even the scooters! I could care less if they wave back.Guess I've been riding so damned long that it's a habit. Up until five or six years ago everyone waved.  I have noticed of the Harley guys that wave back are usually the "Hard core" riders , Not the once a week "hang the tie up" riders. I wave at all the cops I come across and %99 wave back.

Ok...  Get over it.

It is not the Harley.  It is the person!  I can not believe that some people are so shallow that when someone does not wave they are considerd a "douche bag"

I personally wave when i can and i dont go out of my way - this is for safety puposes!  I also own a harley and i wave when i can or want

DO NOT TAKE IT PERSONALLY IF SOME ONE DOES NOT WAVE  If ytou are that in need of a wave go to the ocean [roll]

BTW - when i was passing thru New Mexico - EVERYBODY WAVED.  It did not matter what they were riding. it's the culture of the riders
