Harley Riders and the "motorcycle wave"

Wow, we're off topic, but I have to say this: Celeste, buy a jacket that has a removable liner. In the summer, you'll be cool but protected. I recently low-sided and my jacket (sans liner) saved my elbow.

Okay, on topic: are we supposed to wave to motorcycle cops? Never really thought about it. I just assumed I was bothering them by waving... Maybe I should. They're on motorcycles, too.

I've said this in another thread, but it looks like it needs repeating since there is so much Harley bashing going on.  I'm NOT a brand snob so I wave at everyone on two wheels including scooters and cops in cars.  If they don't wave back, no big deal.  I figure it could be they didn't see me in time, they are busy or new to riding and not comfortable letting go.  When I ride, it is most of the time on my Harley and not my Duc.

I'm happy to finally be on two wheels and I see no reason not the spread that joy around with a polite wave.  Just because others can't bring themselves to change dinosaur thinking, doesn't mean I have to follow their lead.  If no one makes the first move, then the walls we build up around ourselves from people who are different from us will continue to get higher.

Sorry about the attitude towards this crowd. I grew up in the Colorado mountains. Back in the 70's, Harley gangs would come up to camp in the summer and their non-riding hobby was beating up innocent people, trashing private property, and shooting at things for fun. While walking down main street in Grand Lake, Co., I had my life threatened on numerous occasions by these thugs. So, when I see middle class, educated people trying to look and act like thugs, and idolizing these criminals, it really fires me up.

That demographic has changed - Now they are all lawyers and dentists.

The one thing they do that pisses me off the most is when their wife gets her own - way too big for a first bike, and they feel the need to "protect" her as she rides up the canyon (which she is not ready for) at 15 mph by hogging the lane and swerving into the oncoming lane at any safe pass opportunity.  JUST LET US make the beast with two backsING PASS!!!

I love splitting the slow groups like that.  They are like a confused herd of livestock once you get them into 3 or 4 mini stupid groups.
Or on a 4 lane pinning the riders that swerve out to prevent me from passing in the fast lane until the semis help split them up….. Oh for the love of god Just let me pass!!!
Sorry I have a little road rage left from my commute to work.
