Folding Helmet!

http://news.motorbiker.org/blogs.nsf/dx/folding-motorcycle-helmet---time-has-come.htm

Being designed by an industrial designer I guess would make it safe wouldn't it??

Another no vote. Don't know if I'd trust the panels to stay together in a big impact.  No chin protection and visor would get pretty scratched up being shoved in a back pack.

May be a good idea for low speed scooter riding in packed city streets where no one goes very fast.

I'd wear it on my push bike or my skate board but not my bike or a scooter for that matter.
Folding lines mean weak points.

Ummmm, it's not April 1, is it?

I don't think I would wear one either ... but it is an interesting concept.

Open face is not for me. The fact that it is Australian Standards compliant may not mean that much ... but it makes it at least as safe as many other helmets on the market.

Other considerations would be:
. do the mechanisms make it heavier than it needs to be?
. how loud do the joints make the helmet?
. what happens when you ride in the rain?
. does all this have an effect on longevity?
. considering the probable target audience ... will it fit in the underseat storage of scooters that can't take a 'normal' helmet?

I don't give a bugger Betty , i'm gunna order a couple for the Harley, maybe with Stars & Striipes theme in admiration for Americas piece of modern machinery...!     [Dolph]

Will be as popular as the Nissan Cedric, or a 120Y i feel.....!
And, as for fitting under ones scooter seat.....pffffft...!   one of those little buggers, all folded up, would fit easily into my metro sexual man purse...!   [thumbsup]

Woops, thats right......i sold my Harley last week.......sniff sniff... :'(.....Leaves for Lakes Entrance this Saturday.......maybe a guard of honour could be arranged..???  hmmmm..?    ;D

Would I? Nope.
Could I imagine owning one if I owned a scooter and did 100% of my time traveling under 60.. Quite possibly.
There's definitely a market for it with the city dwelling, short trip making set.

One of my mates had an open face helmet until recently.  She had a little off, and was well protected except for gravel rash on her chin.  Her replacement helmet, surprise surprise, is full-face.

yeah I always wonder what the fascination is with open face - bugs hitting me in the face is not my idea of fun.  I am kind of fond of my chin also

As for the folding helmet I put it in the same category as with the helmets the lycra cockroaches wear - aesthetic but not really designed for big impacts...

I always thought 'double chin' meant something else [laugh]
