because 30+ over in NYC = jail time.

I was told that NY does not accept NJ tickets. this was by my insurance agent. of course im pretty sure they are lying scum bags anyway.

you mean felony, not federal?

30 over in many places is a misdemeanor charge up to a year.

people rarely go to jail for it, unless something else was going on.

NY State does not accept points for violations from any other state unless it's a DUI.  Oddly the exception for NY State allowing points to transfer is from Canada.

30+ in NJ is reckless driving and possibility of 1 year in jail.  I didn't end up going to jail and no points but a lot of money.

Plenty of friends who are from NY and get NJ speeding tickets...they pay the fine only and nothing else happens.

Unrelated, I got an improper passing ticket in jersey (4 F***ING POINTS) took it to court with a friend of mine who is a lawyer and plead to unsafe driving. No points. 450 bucks in fines.

I know many people who have gotten big tickets down with no points.. city just cares about the money.. you usually pay double almost..  back in 04 when I first got the neon I got a nice speeding ticket in Jersey.  Group of 30 all neons were headed to pa for meet.. I waited for the group at a reat stop on the tp but got passed.. they didn't tell me when they were passing.  So in haste to catchup, I passed a cop at about 130..  he came up to me n said I saw all ya friends going 80 n you over a 100.. toldm why I was speeding. Hit me with a 90 in 65...  217$   recently while working got a bs ticket cause cop thought I made a right from the middle lane.. I wasn't, me and all the other cars doubling up on the right lane of w houston onto 6th.  Dates for jan 31, I'm bringing a map layout n all.. think its a 2 pointer..  uhg..  think I need a lawyer?

No idea.  NJ is a revenue citation state.  Around me, they don't care about the money at all, they just put you in jail for the weekend for speeding 25 over.  No Questions Asked.

Lawyer can't hurt, but if you are arguing that it wasn't you, that's a hard one.  Then again, try to restate the sentence " I wasn't, me and all the other cars doubling up on the right lane of w houston onto 6th" and I'll try to understand. 

If there was no turning from the middle lane and you were turning from the middle lane,then what?

That's not legal.  You will have a hard time arguing against that.

I was told by my lawyer that one is allow 'plea bargaining/get out of jail type card/reduce points' thingy twice in NJ.  Not knowingly I used it once already 5 yrs ago pleading down a +12 mph over limit ticket so I have one left.. basically the lawyer advise me to save it for a rainy day.

separate note.. a good friend (a corporate lawyer) suggest I get a NY license

well this court date is almost here for this thursday and i just submitted a request to change the hearing date since i have class that day. There were no dates for me to select, so i jsut checked the "request alternate date" box and hope i get another day.

but if i dont, then my plan is to show up an hour early and find a lawyer there.

I have to write down and get my facts straight and give it to the lawyer i assume, but the issue become i dont know what he wrote down in his book as to what i did, because as far as i remember, all i did was filter up between the sidewalk and a car. FIltering as in it was at a red light.

Were you perhaps pulling over at a sidewalk to check something on the bike?  I.e. was it a necessary stop and you couldn't avoid pulling between the car and the sidewalk?

so youre normally allowed 2 date changes. i clicked the wrong button ( accept and do not make any changes) and lost one of them. so i redid it and got a last minute approval to get the date changed to 8/30/12.
