Chain Tension Single Sided Swingarm (S4RS)

HELP....

Just changed my front sprocket to a 14 tooth, didn't bother reading up on anything, as thought it would be straight forward....
However of course the chain needs tightening now....starting searching through tutorials, and haven't found anything great beside reading that there is a special tool to help move the eccentric hub.....figures.

So, can one do without this tool at short notice? I guess you loosen the pinch bolts on the back of the swingarm? And then turn something there???? Any help/ suggestions etc would be appreciated.....found the torque setting of 34Nm for the pinch bolts

Oh yeah....the day also included installing new Rizoma Reservoirs, grips, bar ends, 28mm Evo Slave, K&N airfilter and work on a custom "No Chop" Tail piece.....all good, just let myself down by not being able to tighten a F@#*en chain    [thumbsdown].............Bugger

Someone is going crazy with bling bits hey, thought I saw someone who looks like you checking out people's reservoirs.  ;D

I had the same problem with my S2R800. I looked at the owners manual and it suggests you take it to your local dealer to adjust the chain tension. WTF? Mine is 200km away.

Anyhow, you need a C-spanner. If it helps, I know the one from the VFR800 fits the same as that is what I borrowed from a friend. I just had a copy made before sending it back. You will also need a torque wrench to pinch those bolts up. Don't want them too tight or loose!

Problem solved, Thanks for the offers.
I had an old C spanner kicking around....it was a bit small, came out of a VTR250 Tool Kit....to do what, I am unsure. Anyway, a bit of a hacksaw later, 1 working C spanner....enough to tighten the chain anyway. 
I will look at getting the proper one to suit....
Already have the torque wrench, so had that sorted !!

Just took it for a quick blat around West Head....1st is much nicer, 2nd power wheelies nicely. apart from that, I don't notice a lot of difference....maybe a slight drop in the upper legs....was only a short ride though.

More importantly, Bling Time

And the not quite finished, No Chop Tidy Tail...new light / frame plugs etc are on order. Still need to work out a better securing. The far rear will sit down a tiny bit more.....and only half the spray up the back !!

Obviously the overpriced Ducati tool is the answer but in a pinch you can use a drift and small hammer to lightly tap the adjuster to get the tension right. It's pretty easy to turn and doesn't need to move too far to be tensioned.

I still think you're better off keeping the 15t front and getting a quick change rear allowing a good range of sprockets to tailor the ratio to your needs and getting the best chain wear. Also protects your adjuster if you wear the rubber bushings as the quick change has retaining tabs.

I have the 14t front as well and I have to agree that it makes 1st gear somewhat more usable, especially in traffic. Gearcommander calculated a 7% increased wear factor on just that one tooth, an increase of 94 contacts per Km which isn't a whole lot in the life of a chain. It also depends on how hard you punish it as well. I had mine done during a service so no advice form me on the DIY chain tighten.

OK, important question though, where did you get those mirrors from? I've looked on the sites I know and can't find them like that?

Glad they have some "Bling" Factor......as their not so great in the "Mirror" Factor
