Lots of cash spent to federalize each chassis with each engine/transmission combination to start.
We're talking Toyota here...not Ducati.

Part of the weak sales would likely come down to the fact that the American automotive industry package their vehicles like idiots.  They're only offering the diesel engines in the top trim levels, and then adding a hefty premium on top of that.  I'm not surprised at all that people aren't lining up to buy them when it turns into a $40+K truck.

It's so the rest of us can go "see?" when the people who may have wanted one since like, 2011 don't buy one.  :-* [cheeky]
If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

Nissan...

And it turns out it isn't really a "small" truck.  12k towing and a ton and a quarter in the bed are pretty big specs.  The bed is only shortish, and they have a 5th wheel hitch standard.

It's like what a 3/4 ton was last century.

It would be about $3K or so to add the necessary after treatment system to one of our global diesels to make it compliant.

My '16 Tacoma stickers for $38.5K as it is.

It actually on a separate chassis and slightly smaller.

Current HiLux dimensions are the same as the US Taco

Whoa.  Just for comparison, I purchased a truck for one of my guys last week.  A '16 F250, SuperCab, 2WD, 6.2L V8 and it was $36.2K delivered.  10000# GVWR.

Not really a lot of wiggle room on the Toyota.

Not a 'lot' of wiggle room on cars at all anymore. The factories want all the profit, but a dealer that wants your business has ways to sweeten the deal so the delivered price is more attractive.

With less than a 15 day supply on a national basis, there aren't a lot of discounts being given.
