another thread in our local forum spawned the thought of this thread, so here it is...

I can't even begin to think of how to spell the sound of a wookie howl...but if you were going to spell out how something sounded...how would you do it...

easy example...

air escaping the valve stem of your bicycle

FFFFFFFFFffffffffffffffff-ssssssssssshshhshhshshsshhshshhhhhuuuuuu

^ That's the sound of a failed thread.

I kid!  [cheeky]

It's hard to convert sound into text.  I guess that's why they came up with metaphors.  Of coures comic books have been doing it for years, POW!
He man, where are all the ads?

a wookie is as hard as spelling a good rumble fart with snaps at the end.
but we can all imagine the sound of a fart spelled pffft.
are we this bored today?

"Spelling of sounds"  Errr..you mean like phonology?  [cheeky]

You were actually talking about transcribing Chewy?!  D*mn zooom..you're making the SW fans look as bad as the trekkies!!
I'm sure some geek phonology professor has done it though.   [cheeky]

As an SLP, a portion of my job includes phonetically transcribing speech..articulation errors and all.  Some of the sounds the kids vocalize can make things challenging.  Transcribing Chewbacca can't be too hard though..insert a string of diphthongs.."VVVVVVVVV-VVV-VVV".  It seems like he does form an occasional consonant.   Reading the transcription back though would be difficult because the of the inflection.  One might not sound like a real wookie.

the spelling of sounds is often better than the smelling of certain sounds
This is an insult to the Pez community
