This is the 696 bashing thread,  not the bash people who bash the 696 thread LOL.
sorry, got to totally disagree with you on this,

Keep in mind, the "bash people" thread is on some other board.

Section 2.1 of the Board Guidelines is pretty clear on that.

I had the opportunity to check out a 696 the other day.  Having heard so many people say, "It's much better in person" I had a very open mind and expected good things.  In my mind, unfortunately, it is not better in person.  It may be worse.

The tank is bulky, and plastic-y, and cheap looking.  The headlight is goofy, and not at all flowing.  The pillion cover and "fairing" is like a combination of all the worst design elements from the tank and headlight.  The cans are just too big and misshapen.  The seat seams poorly constructed as the vinyl "floats" above the padding like a trampoline.  (....will it eventually stretch and sag, like granny panties?)

On the other hand, I see many things they did right.  The curved front header routing looks great.  The swingarm is beautiful.  I don't mind the trellis / aluminum combo frame at all.

So, I still think most of the problems are easy to "mod away" with the exception of the tank.  I'm sure there will be fix for that, too .... eventually.   ;D   Once modded, it's be a good looking bike!   [evil]

I'm sure it's soul is still pure Ducati.  The riding experience is, no doubt, intoxicating.

Sorry to drag an old thread up to the top again, but I just saw too much irony in this.  Looks like 707 has jumped ship and moved on from the bike that he loved so much...

What's wrong with that? If you really love something, you can sell it, right?

If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

Got to see one up close and for the most part it looks good, but once I saw all the plastic up front of the engine, I couldn't focus on the rest of the bike  ...I really don't understand the need for all the plastic.    The best analogy for this visual assault is like a fine shapely model wearing a diaper.  [puke]

I recently purchased a new 696 and I really love it, but I do see your points regarding the styling of the bike.  Compared to the previouse models it doesn't have that classic look anymore, and with regards to the new look ducati could have made the bike flow better with a little change in the tank and seat.  If ducati had made the 696 look exactly like the below pics would most or all of the haters/bashers opinions change?  Discuss:
