That's why anyone who doesn't enjoy riding a bicycle with no seat on a bumpy road plumbs a hose in place of the drain plug as in pic.



Next is the oil filter that (in theory) requires special pliers to remove but the bastard can just be stabbed with a screw driver and yanked out...  [laugh] followed by an oil screen on the inlet to the oil tank but my bicycle has a seat and the gas tank stayed on, so f**k that little bugger I'm not going to bother. Then off to the right side of the bike, there's another oil screen right above the center stand. So off the center stand, on the side stand, move the oil tray over to the other side of the bike, out comes the oil screen and tilt the bike to the right side just to get the last of the oil out.

The BMW is overall less involved, even with the holy faux tank covers of +1 libido vs Harleys and the navel-high oil tank's drain plug. But still more involved than my Civic SI that requires taking off the front right wheel and reaching in like a veterinarian up a cow's ass to get to the oil filter.

In this regard the Monster was (is?) the best.  8)

I was compelled by the power of red yesterday...
Did a loop of level B surface (minimum maintenance) roads with my buddy on his 990 Adventure (Guess who had to have his bike picked up multiple times...Hint: Wasn't me!  [cheeky])
I got a bunch of video and had an absolute blast until the KTM's fork seals decided that they were done with life. He hopped on the highway and headed home while I did the last couple of roads on the way home solo.

We did find an abandoned rail line that was still flat and smooth for about 4 miles through a great canopy of trees. Hoping to return once the trees leaf out and get some more video.
For now, a teaser shot...was very happy with how the Husky handled the incredibly sloppy conditions.

I like the look more, plus having the KTM name is nice even though they are pretty much the same, Top Gear says the Duke is three seconds faster to 100 also, not sure what the difference is though.

Suzuki DR650:  Remove sump plug, oil runs out.  Replace sump plug pour new oil in.

In case anyone was wondering, if you start a wheelie in first gear, then clutch less shift to second and use a little too much throttle a 450sm will go vertical and almost throw the rider off the back.
