When posting rates I think it would help if you guys posted your age, your bike, location, and coverage amounts.

I'm 24 with a s2r 800 in MD just outside of DC and I'm getting quotes of 872 from Progressive and Foremost with full coverage (100/300) and 500 deduct. I might look into getting out the medical since I do have health insurance. And will def give rider a call

Really odd. Seems nobody pays a similar price at the same insurer even if their situations are quite similar. :P

being in a neighboring zip code with all other facts identical can raise your rates.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

I'm not posting my age, let's just say I'm mature. I'm also an Ex-MSF instructor and a graduate of numerous riding and racing schools. I'm paying ~$1,067 a year full coverage on all my bikes, plus a Scooter, except the Paso, I don't want them to total it if something was to happen so I just have liability. I do not have medical, that advice is good, if you need medical as the result of an accident you will only be able to get paid from one insurer and typically your work coverage is your Primary Care provider. I live in No. Va and Progressive is my insurance. I was taken out on the Beltway 2 years ago, guy clipped my front tire while changing lanes, there was $3,800 damage to my ST3, progressive was obessive IMHO about putting it back together to original condition, my rates did not go up. I also had a claim on my Victory, vanadalism when some guy went berserk and damaged a bunch of vehicles in the neighborhood, I think the parts were around $500. Shh No Tickets issued, proably a bunch deserved. - Gene

Wow, it seems kind of high to me.   You're an old guy like me, I've got tickets, I've got a felony evading (but from 10 years ago), but I've never had a claim. I realize you've got a bit more to cover than me, but your premium is 4 times what mine is.   Is VA that much higher a risk factor than Santa Barbara County in CA?:

29, male, clean record (no tickets, no claims in 5+ years)

2 cars + 1 bike in MA: $3k/yr with USAA, split evenly across the three vehicles with full coverage [bang]

Eventually I'll have a Ducati

twolanefun brings up a good point regarding classes.  Ask the various carriers if they discount for MSF courses.  State Farm in CO does not. However, their rates are pretty low as-is (at least in Colorado).

Also of note, they will not insure a moto part time, yearly only, so you can't drop/start with the seasons to save money if you don't ride in the winter.

most don't have that, but you can lower your coverage at any time.  that's what i do when it gets cold.  drop the liability to state minimum, drop all other non-required coverages and increase the comprehensive/collision.  You're only worried about theft during winter months.

my agent asked me why i did that, and i told him flat out : " i don't ride when it gets wintertime ".  He said "no problem" and repriced the policy without any hassle.

Makes me wonder... if your bike is in your garage and you have homeowner's insurance, it should be covered without additional auto coverage.  I'll have to check with my agent to get the full scoop...

Don't bet on that.

State Farm home owners doesn't cover things like bikes and cars because they can have their own policies.

Nope.  Autos and other vehicles are specifically excluded in every policy I've ever seen.  So are expensive jewelry, bullion, collections of expensive items, and so forth.  You have to add a policy for those, or an auto policy for a bike/car/pwc etc

When it comes to riding season again and you raise your coverages do you find that your rates are any different or higher than the previous year?

nope.  they use the same criteria to price you.

the reason it doesn't change is that i keep the policy in place with minimums for liability.  the issue when they price is how long you'e been covered and what your record is.  they don't really care if you raise or lower it, and when my agent understood was wasn't riding ~at all~ then the risk for them is ZERO.
