Progress report for anyone who gives a hoot:
Almost all of the damaged pieces have been removed.  I've got several boxes of new bits that replace pretty much everything on the left hand side of the bike.

All the replacement bodywork is shown... the red pieces are all from an '06 "S" model (yeah, I paid extra for the reflectors  [evil]  ).  Found a great deal on a red tank locally so I decided to get it to go with the rest of the red stuff... it was cheaper than having to strip and repaint the yellow one.  Tail section is black with a white number plate.  I'm going to leave the tail section black, paint the rear subframe gloss black, and put a white number plate on the front.  VOILA!  Let's ride...

Thanks.  It will be different that's for sure  ;D

If it's an '06 front fairing my CutGrafix number plate kit will work. [thumbsup] [popcorn] ;)
I plan to list the Federal Gov't. as a dependent on my next 1040 tax filing!

I have flying honey badgers and I'm not afraid to use them!

The fact that flame throwers exist is proof that someone somewhere said "I'd sure like to set those people over there on fire but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

CONFIDENCE: the feeling you have right before you understand the situation.

Cool.  I'm not sure which one you have but I've got a long front number plate with a red stripe along the border that I'm probably going to use.  The rear tail already has a factory applied number block so I'm good there.

Thanks for the offer though  [beer]

I got a lot of work done this weekend; removed and replaced the left side rearset and Oberon foot peg, and the damaged shifter rod and pedal.  Then I removed and replaced the left side clip on, turn signal housing, and clutch master cylinder/reservoir/lever assembly.

Then I tagged and removed the pulverized battery box and wiring harness (ever wonder where the 400 miles of wiring on a 999 is located?  Well it's coiled up like a poisonous Slinky behind a 12" x 24" plastic battery box of course  :D  )

And, just because I wasn't already having tons of fun, I decided to remove the intake runners and check the air filters.  Both runners were full of sand and miscellaneous debris... the left hand air filter was full of pea gravel  :o   Inside the air box I could see a fine layer of sand on the fuel injector shower assembly and bell mouths so I decided to remove the air box and give it a good cleaning as well (besides, I still had a couple of beers left so what else could I do?)

I guess it's all part of the fabled Ducati Experience.  Plus, I look at it this way; just like any other motorcycle project, if I ever decide to do something like this again it should only take half the time... in this case 45 days instead of 90  [evil]

P.S.  No tools were thrown in the making of this post...

Ha!  Funny you should say that.  I'm waiting on a replacement cooling fan that goes on the left hand side of the radiator.  Once that part gets here I'll start working on the radiator.  It's not too bad, actually.  You should see the replacement ("pre-owned") oil cooler  :o  Now THAT'S a mess  [laugh]

I wasn't planning on getting that detailed with the cleaning but once the air box was off, well, there was all this dirt...

I can't help myself sometimes  [bang]  [laugh]

Working on the bike has been good for getting the dexterity back in my hand.  Still not great but a lot better than it was.  I'm hoping to ride the Daytona this weekend.  Maybe  :-\

Glad it is getting some therapy for the wrist.  It is neat to see the engineering that goes into the components of the bike up close (like the throttle body brackets), especially on the sbk's where so much is buried under the body work.  As for riding, they do make quick turn throttles, I  just put an r6 throttle tube on the buell, probably reduced the throw 20%
