So I have been frequenting ADVRider since getting the Multi.
I was reading a ride report and the poster mentioned that she would be heading from ABQ to Chicago so I offered up the sofa for the night not expecting to hear from her.
Sure enough, she emailed me Sunday and will be here in a couple of hours.
Here is her website...
http://www.tiffanystravels.co.uk/

I am looking forward to hearing stories. She has been all over the world (Her primary bike has over 180k miles on it so far)
We had originally planned on cooking her dinner but later found out that she is a vegetarian and serving her an Iowa classic such as Steak de Burgo probably wouldn't have gone over so well.

And since portabella deburgo would still require butter, we decided we are going to take her to see the city with dinner at a the best Thai place in DSM.

there are a lot of spreads made with olive oil that taste very buttery.

a lot of them now advertise as vegan too.

also, i love the idea of what she is doing. I would love to do the same thing. i just haven't figured out how to pay for it or keep my job and still do it.
Life, alas is very drear. Up with the glass and down with the beer!

She got a job with Globebusters who provide her with the bike and support needs when she is guiding a tour for them.

Probably the best way to go about it is to get a sponsorship from a charity and ride for a cause. Or to get vendor sponsors...or to become independently wealthy or...have a rich uncle die and leave you money or just say make the beast with two backs it, sell everything except what you can carry with you on the bike and just go.

I just sent the olive oil suggestion to my wife who i am sure has already looked into it. She is awesome about our friends' dietary needs. We have pescatarian, vegan and ova/lactose friends so she is pretty conscientious about it.

OK... I just posted about this and then my whole post just disappeared. WTF?

I'll try again and make it more brief.

Good for you taking in a total bike riding stranger and making them feel at home. Cool of you for taking her out for dinner if she is a vegan and you are not. VERY considerate of you and your family! This is what makes me care about this website. The care, the humor, the compassion for like minded folks is overwhelming. How often do we see this stuff in day to day life? Not often enough. >:(

Blessings to you and your family for doing this. Our world needs more of this... not less. Hope you guys have a great evening! [thumbsup] [bow_down] [bacon] And I wish her well on her future travels. ;)

I think traveling all over the world and remaining vegan would be a job within itself.

I've done it (for work), it's certainly not easy.

work forced you to travel as a vegan , damn hard job  [laugh]
i dont care if you have been a mechanic for 10 years doing something for a long time does not make you good at it, take my gf for an example shes been walking for 28 years and still manages to fall over all the time.

I'm pretty sure the Kona Coffee I sent you was vegan, so you better brew her a cup of that tomorrow morning.

But don't offer her any cream for it.

Maybe almond or soy milk (I guess), but definitely no cream.

Fortunately, her conviction only lies with anything that has a face.
So she had a delicious Vegetable Pasta Napoleon (portabella, caramelized fennel, grilled squash & ricotta filling, bechamel, feta cheese).

For breakfast we served english muffins (see what I did there?) with fried eggs and cheese. Apparently they were decent because she had 2.

Amazing stories from this woman...not only of herself and how it all started for her but also of the people she has met in her travels.

I took the day off from work and escorted her through Des Moines and about 20 miles east of the city before turning back towards home.

She is living my dream life. Travelling, experiencing new places and people, speaking to others about it all and all on a bike that has been her trusty steed for the last 15 or so years.

Angelica looking longingly and enviously at Thelma...

Having met the woman, knowing she has gone throughout most of the world on this particular bike is no longer as surprising but even more amazing.

Tiffany gets to see Cedar Bridge. Part of the movie, "Bridges of Madison County" was shot here and in the surrounding countryside/town of Winterset.

Caught her in the act...

Again, what an amazing and wonderful person.
