I just wanted to say hi. As you can tell I love Naked V-Twins. I have Dreamed of owning Ducati since my first bike. 20+ years riding in the twisty of Colorado.  ;) I am new to the forums and cant wait to learn all things Monster. If you live in the area I would love to find some Naked riding buddies LOL. I was going to get a 796 Monster this winter and am still planing to do that. I found this little 620 on craigslist for $1700 and could not pass it up. It just needed some TLC and elbow grease. I named Her Adreana, Italian girls name which means Dark. My plan is to make a little City striped down CafeRacer out of Her. She has 16k and I am planing to keep the build around $3k. Things I don't like or suck are the brakes and the forks. She idles like crap maybe time for Throttle sync, valve and belts to be worked on. Going to do myself.  :o

Here's a list of what I have done and what I am planing. Please give me any input or insight you have.

You might look up the GSX-R fork conversion It'll add a rotor (with a wheel that'll take it) and be a big step up in the fork department. It does take a little more work in the form of different spacers and a touch of fiddling. There's plenty of info on the board for that.

Let to try to put you off the idea of a 180 rear wheel. It's a good bit of hassle and expense for no real gain- unless it's a cosmetic thing. Otherwise you'd be taking a performance hit from the bigger heavier wheel. More unsprung weight, more mass for the engine to spin up and slowed tip in with the increased gyro effect. Some folks have wanted to do it 'for mor traction'  While you might get some - you can save a lot of cash and hassle by getting stickier tires.

-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

Thank for the info.I think I am just going to re valve the fork with heavier oil. I will look into finding some used dual brakes I can just swap out. Any ideas on some Ducati models that will strait swap?

As for the tire I did do a little research and fond out 180 is defiantly not the way to go. I was looking for a bigger look. This will be my commuting city bike so sticky in not the issue. What do you think of a 170 on my stock rim. I had a 160 over the stock 150 for my NT650 and loved the look. the stock 160 just looks so weak on her.

Oh and should I just post this in the mod forum?

yeah you'll get a lot more traffic for you fork question in Mods or tech.

Any monster forks use the same dimensions for tube dia and length. There's some differences for caliper mounts and rotors - like the radial calipers and such on an S4Rs that make things more difficult as you'd need a different wheel too.

Good forks to target would be S2R1000 - direct replacements for you, with compression, rebound and preload external adjustment. Some flavors of M1000, S4 and M900 would do well too.
Brakes, S2r1000, M1000, M900, M800, M750, 620 (6 speed) until 2005, 748, 916 (newer), 996, 998, ST2 etc etc. IE A LOT of ducs for a lot of years used the same set up. Brembo 4 piston - 2 pad calipers on 320 mm, 10mm offset rotors. Caliper mounts using 65 mm replaced 40mm mounts on earlier bikes, but I'm not sure what year the cut over was.

You can also fit the 4 piston, 4 pad calipers from 749/999 to those 65mm axial mounts and common rotor size. That's what I have fit to my '00 900.

If you got that option, though you might need a custom brake line. If you get a line off one of the monsters and the 2-pad calipers its' a direct fit.

Also budget for a new master - the ones used on the two caliper bikes have a bigger bore.

Yep I think LOL. Time for valves adjust and belts, plus full tuneup. I get my helmet today so I am going to rider her a little to work and back before I open her up for a tuneup. Any suggestion on any additive to clean her out before the tuneup. I like Lucas products have worked great for my trucks. Wish I had a stand and garage LOL.

I feel you on the garage I'm hoping to have one by winter at least I have a storage shed for the moent. stands are really nice to have if your going to get a pair they are gonna cost you a bit but I would get pitbulls I have a front and a rear and I feel comfortable saying that I don't think I will ever have to buy another set of stands again, and I think they look really nice too.

as for the additives lucas makes some good stuff you can run the same thing in your bike as you did in your truck. you just won't need a whole bottle lol or I use seafoam that works well too. and use can also use seafoam as a gas stabilizer for winter storage so if you don't use the whole bottle your set for winter too.

Hunt around - TKC 80 is that tire model, and that's just the first thing to pop up when I searched for 17" TKC 80s. There's a number of dual sport options for 17" wheels out there.

Beretta, I don't mean to commandeer your thread but you mentioned having a decal hookup in your original post. I would love to know what your plan is for this. My '99 M750 Dark is lacking any tank decals and just has the shadow of the original current styling. I want to get the 80s double line in reflective silver for the tank. I'm curious if you're going your route because you have a hookup or if you'd go this route anyway because it's the best (or some other reason). Is this going to be a paint job or a nylon or laminate? How does it compare to Bevel Heaven or this http://www.twistedvinylgraphics.com/Double-Lined-Ducati-Decal-D3.htm?? I'm eager to get something on my tank, but would prefer to do it right the first time even though the tank will probably need a paint job at some point and thus a redo of all of this.
