Hello everyone out there.

I just bought a new (to me) 01 monster 600 black. I really don't know a whole lot about Ducati or fixing them or many bikes for that matter ;D but slowly learning.

Been riding for 2 years now, I owned a 96 cbr f3, then a 02 f4i, then 06 Kawi 636 and finally an 07 Suzuki GSXR 600 only for track. The monster will be for street duty.

I figured it's just enough power to have fun on some twisters and keep me from trying to go too fast on the freeway.

I bought it from a guy that wanted to have it for track duty, so he cut all the wiring for the lights and unfortunately he went down and decided he wanted to get rid of it. I got a pretty good deal, I think.

But now I'm working on getting it street legal with the lights and wiring. Right now it's at the shop o clean the carbs out. here are a few things I will be looking to do to it, so I will have a bunch of questions.

I hope you guys can answer them and have the patience for this noob.

I will post up pictures when I get a chance.

I saw a few people with some nice mods on here, and will be looking to do some things similar. I'm from Houston, TX in case there are some folks on here from H-town.

Hi.

Welcome.

Plenty of good info and folks here to help you with the project. You'll probably be mostly in 'Tech' at first.

FYI you might call the shop that has your bike and get then to swap on some new cam drive belts. Unless the dude who had it before did so recently, they are a limited life item. 12k miles OR 2 years from install. So if you're not sure - $80 for a pair of belts (plus install) is cheap insurance.

For the headlight here's the factory type connectors

- Hope that helps you hook up a new light.

-Er, well you got some photos of while I was writing and looks like the light works just fine
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

Yeah, the lights are all working now... I was having quite a bit of problem with the bike knocking and stalling when I would try to get it going and I couldn't find neutral.

We were all scratching our heads even after all the maintenance (clean carbs, plugs, fuel filter, timing belts etc..) so lastnight I finally decided to just ride and see if it did it in all gears...unbeknownst to me, the guy I bought it from had that shit in GP shift!...I just had to laugh at myself and ... The great knees is that the bike runs just fine. I hope I didn't mess anything up starting it and it going from 5th those times I did.

All I need now is just an air filter and then I'll start working on painting a few of the covers and taking those dents off the tank. Unless someone here has one for sale.

Anyone have advice on how to change it back to reg shift. I would hate to be the guys that rides GP shift on the street and reg shift on the track lol

I had an '01 M600 Dark for a minute, but I had an '01 900Sie at the same time....of course selling off the 600.  I would LOVE to get another 600 though.  Those things are so much fun and so incredibly light!  Would be a perfect around town bike (along with the twisties).  Enjoy it!
