Still have a giant shit-eating-grin (as they say) while I stand in the garage admiring the S4RS I just picked up. Five year old bike with 1000 miles on her -- WTF? How does anyone buy a beauty like this and NOT ride her every possible moment??

Pics to come as soon as I figure things out here.

FS posts also to come as I strip her from OEM condition and start spending all the hard earned $ I've been saving up.  Hit me up if ur looking for Pre-2009 OEM parts.

Seems the cool thing. Some other fellow jsut traded their 696 on a S4Rs with 130, yes 130 miles.

So do you know Ducs? If so skip the next para.. if not read on.

With a biek that age, and low miles it's about sure that the cam drive belts are original and need to be replaced. They are spec'd to be replaced at 12k miles OR two years from being put into service. Obviously the mileage hasn't been it - but the age has. And belts that sit, tensioned, get stiff/flat spots and are more prone to issues that high mile belts are run regularly. So new belts soon soon would be a good thing. Doing belts on a 4v is a bit of a task, so if you're not familiar with the work I'd suggest you take it to a shop.

Otherwise, welcome. Enjoy!
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

Welcome.
This is a great place.
Dont skip on the belts if the scheduled belt replacement cant be verified. Any log book documentation?
You have the flagship of the Monster range. [thumbsup]

Take this opportunity to coat the tank with Caswell tank sealer. I just did mine and it's no big deal (also a 07 S4RS with only a few miles on her).

Thx guys. I'm no wrench so I had a dealership do a full inspection of the bike. Even tho the seller didn't give her attention on the road, he did have all that stuff addressed before listing the bike -- if only all the people I dealt with in the world were this meticulous -- and the dealership warrantied out the old tank and got me a brand new one.

As far as the Caswell coating goes... I've read a bunch of posts from people on multiple forums who have coated their tanks and still have issues. According to some of them, unless the tank was coated during the manufacturing process the coating isn't guaranteed to address the expansion problem; something having to do with the coating not completely "bonding" to the inside of the tank. I plan to ride the bike several times per week so I don't expect it to sit for long periods with a full tank. Hope it's not a major issue down the road but, she'll end up being more of  a street-hooker than a garage-queen   [laugh]
