796 - school me on clip ons // different bars

So, Ive been reading about clip ons and bars for about the past two days and am still fairly undecided on what I want to do...That being said, let me know your experiences with both.

What I'm looking for from the swap:

1. Mainly better body position. Right now the wind seems to catch by body like a sail and its not fun on the highway. It seems betting my arms closer in and body down closer to the bike is the way to go. (yes? no?)

2. The stock bars make turn in very comfortable and I need very little input into the bars (I would like to retain this with whatever I choose.)

3. Price // aesthetics - I like the look of clip ons.

I was debating between woodcraft clip ons, not sure of height, aftermarket lsl bars, or keeping the stockers and dealing with it.
So all that being said, which way should I go?

i would go with a windshield, clip on bars will lower your arms and riding position by probably ~4", sit on a superbike or other crotch rocket, you will be lower to the tank, but it could wreak havoc on your back and wrists on long rides, that being said, i would vote on speedymoto bars as you have a greater range of adjustability because of the design of the bars, so you can tailor it to your liking

ive gone through much debate on the bars and i guess i am ultimately deciding against it as i probably would have gotten an 848evo if i could take the riding position

Riding position is another thing I dont want to compromise. I was thinking about possibly woodcraft with a 2.5" rise. I'm assuming that would get me out of the wind a little bit, but still keep me well out of the territory of 848 ergos. The main thing to me is I still want bar input to be as effortless as it is with the wide stock bars on it.

As far as the windshield goes, I tried the stock one and just couldn't handle it, purely aesthetically speaking

if you dont have the windshield, i would consider the suburban machinery bars, they put the bars about 3-4" straight forward, if you have a stand, i would put my hands in the position where you think it would be and see if its comfortable

I was just on the suburban machinery website and it says under ducati that none of the bars will fit a 796 due to the "fly screen". I'm guessing if I'm not running the stock windshield I should be ok? Unless I'm way off base there. Also, what would be the advantage of these opposed to clip ons?

well they main draw with them is you can use the stock mounting hardware and not have to replace the upper triple

now when they say it interferes with the flyscreen(windshield), i would reckon if you dont have the windshield, you can disregard the note

I have a 98 M900 with Apex 4" adjustable riser's which I love.
You can have them pretty close to standard bar height or lower them to your desired
Position..including turn in angle.

There is a 796 at my work garage...stock bar and riser is quite tall & wide on that bike.
Judging by looks anyway, never ridden one
My people skills are just fine.
It's my tolerance to idiots that needs work.

The bars do feel very wide to me. Which I think is part of the reason my body feels like a sail catching wind on the highway.

I'm leaning towards replacement bars over clip ons at this point. Looking for something lower, no as wide, and powder coated black. Anyone have any ideas?

I've got speedymoto "tall boys" on my 796 and love them! About $250 but still worth it. I took the riser off and removed the bushings from the triple tree allowing me to install 2 12v sockets in their place. Also the tall boys are fully adjustable. I can take pictures of them if you'd like me to.

The 796 has a higher riser than the older 696 and 1100 bikes. You could try one of those to lower your riding position a bit without even changing bars.

Thanks for the pictures!

I'm going back and fourth between clip ons w a 2.5" rise and stock width bars with a lower riser. Preferably aftermarket and black in color on both. I dont mind the stock bars, I just want them to be lower.
