I just bought a 2010 Monster 1100.  It has 900 miles on it and has a ton of accessories.  My last Ducati was a 1973 750 Desmo that I bought new in Portland.  I'm glad I found this site as I'll have a bunch of questions.

Dave, I checked this bike out very closely, I cannot find any frame/steering damage.  The only things it needs is brake/shift pedals and mirrors.  This is a perfect bike with 900 miles and a ton of killer accessories, I don't understand how they could have totaled this bike out, but that's OK, it's mine now!

I cannot take the PNWRiders site seriously, too many immature readers.

Welcome - frame damage is about guaranteed to total a bike. Many times ins will total a bike with paint damage to the frame even if there's no real damange beyond the cosmetic. They can be super gun shy about frame damage.

And on occasion, there can be frame damage and no damage to the stops. Buddy just totaled his 1100S, there was plenty of other obvious damage, but it seemed fine until we got it on a lift and had a good look as it was ridable though rashy. The was slight twist at the steering head that wasn't noted until we could really eye ball it. So that 1100 took a ride on a wrecker to the big salvage yard in the sky...

But, really it's not hard to total a modern Monster on cost, even without any real damage. You scrape up one of the stock cans, the ones that people don't want and OEM replacement is $1138. You read that right more than a grand for one (1)!! of the stock cans. As you might expect even a mild low side or a car knocking it over in the park can total up to a lot of $$$ fast.

But! It's yours now, looks good in the photos so ride that bugger!
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

I do believe I saw you on your way home from collecting your prize last week; I was on the yellow Monster on Airport Way.  Nice score.  [thumbsup]

Dave, looking for an on line site that has good prices on OEM parts.  Any ideas?

I'd probably be way better off with a Hypermotard as the seating position is better on my damaged knee.  I'll see if I can make the Monster work though.
