The good news: I Just picked up a 2004 M 620 Dark a few days ago. 18K miles for $3K - only real add-on was Fast by Ferracci carbon-fiber slip ons. Previously I have a Harley V-rod, the original silver/aluminum version which I sold last September - cruisers were not really my thing anymore. I had also looked a the street triple, but I really like the simplicity of this bike and was going to be simplifying it even more, putting my stink on it.

I removed the reflectors, mirrors, the plastic pieces that run along the frame on both sides of the seat (the hide wiring which I moved...not sure why Ducati did not do that in the first place?) Flat black paint of the plastic belt engine covers...again, not sure why Ducati did not just make these black instead of that weird grey? I have ordered several parts including the tail elimination/plate kit and and an integrated rear lights. Also LED headlight and front turn signals, bar end mirrors, and other things.

The bike is amazing. Light, simple, easy to personalize and fast and powerful enough for me.

The bad news: I stupidly went out this morning at 5am to go on a hike up a local canyon. It was dark, but I thought I would take the bike. My full face has a tinted shield...stupid #1 - I should have taken my 3/4 with the clear shield. This canyon (American Fork) is super twisty and I was sure a turn went one direction when it went the other. Very low speed but at the most severe corner yet, I went into the sand that had collected at the side of the road and went off. I did not slide, just went off the road and dropped the bike. So great this is such a light bike. Could have been worse. No real damage to me or the bike except a baseball size dent in the left side of the tank, rear left blinker which I am getting rid of anyway broke, and somehow the bolt or mechansim that screws into the seat to lock it down (must have been loose) popped out.

Now I need to figure out if it is cheaper to get the dent fixed at a body shop or find a used, painted tank. I am reapplying/repainting a different logoface anyway with my modifications. Great to be here and anxious to learn more about this great bike.

Welcome. You now own the famous Ducati Ding.

That dent, of varied size is really common in monsters. Stock, the switches will hit the tank at full lock. So even a 0 mph drop usually resulted in a ding in the tank. Note how the new monsters have those mesh cut outs in the 'tank'... that's not just for cool looks.

Re the tank... not sure what the prices of tanks that fit that are going for these days. But it might be worth it to pick up one. Then you can have a tank at the shop and ride with the other. Bike won't go so far with no gas tank at all, right?

-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.
