You really can't beat that price for a project bike. Good luck!

Looking very good and that's quite a list of mods for someone who says they wish they had more $$ - lol.  I guess when you pick up your project for $500 you can do that (no that's not jealousy you see on my face...it's envy).

You're inspiring me to start my own mod thread...maybe one of these days.  Keep up the good work!

Haha thanks for the kind words.  You should definitely consider getting your own build thread going.  I really enjoy getting to see what other creative things people are doing on these bikes.

Yeah I know it looks like I spent a lot of money on the bike.  The reality is that I am probably more blessed than many others, but I really don't have much discretionary money.  Single income raising a family of 4.  I had to get pretty creative to make this happen.  Selling things on Craigslist, selling things on this forum and mostly only buying used parts from people parting out their bikes.  My goal has been to get this bike rebuilt without costing my family anything out of our checking account.  Doing pretty good so far I think.

I probably shouldn't share this, and I am not bragging by any means, but there is a special member on this forum that sent me some free parts that you can see on this bike.  He simply understood where I am at financially and wanted to support my hobby.  I really appreciate people like that, and hope to return the favor for someone else someday.

That's AWESOME!! I've found that a lot of people here are pretty helpful and friendly...two of the reasons why I decided to join.

You're not the only one that's mentioned that they sell things on Craigslist (or Ebay for that matter) to fund their bike modding addiction.  I may have to join that party boat because I'm sure I can find some things to sell.  In fact, I just remembered that since I got married, I have a whole bunch of stuff I'm not using in a storage unit!!!  New mods...HERE. I. COME.

So, I think it's in the tutorials section, but there's a thread that details how to dye plastics, like the belt covers. With all the nice work you're doing, those tatty old things stand out like a sore thumb
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.
- '00 M900S with all the farkles
- '08 KTM 690 StupidMoto
- '07 Triumph 675 Track bike.

Good call Slide Panda.  I actually dyed my cam belt covers and chain sprocket cover last weekend (using the DIY) shortly after taking this picture!  On it like a bonnet!

They turned out really nice.  I will get them installed once I get my new cam belts put on.

Milestone achieved: got it to fire up!

Here is a video:

I do have some mechanical questions, so I will probably drop this in the Tech section.

FYI...

it takes about 30-45 seconds for oil to reach the top end.

You might want to limit rpms to whatever is necessary to run for that period of time.

Thanks Nate.  I probably had it running for 3-5 minutes before taking this video without rolling the throttle at all.  The only way I could keep it idling (without throttle) was to manually drip gasoline into the intake.

Also, I had squirted put some marvel mystery oil into the spark plug hole and manually worked the cylinders up and down.  I then turn turned it over for a minute before plugging in the spark plug wires.

I'd have used a round headlight style.  But that's just me not in love with the latest street-fighterish, back-to-the-future, adornments.

I know some of you are going to be disappointed that I didn't go with the OEM Ducati Red... but oh well.  Once I saw this color I had to have it.
