So of course the easiest mod you can do has stumped me.  Just installed Pazzo levers on my 2011 796 ABS and when I was pushing the brake lever pivot bolt back into the new lever a small black cylindrical piece of plastic fell out form somewhere on the ground.  I've never seen this and I even searched online - anyone have a clue what it is or where is goes?

Cheers-

It always falls off and you're lucky to have found it  ;D

It goes in a hole in the master cylinder, between the lever and the brake light switch.
You might need to remove the lever to get it in.

Yep, you might notice that your brake light isn't working when you pull the brake lever?

As stopintime says it's a little push rod (sounds a bit dramatic for what it is) that the lever acts on, that pushes the little switch on the bottom side of the master.
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

You're not the first one to have that issue. You were lucky enough to find that widget. Lots of times it just gets lost as folks are not looking for it.

About the only harder to deal with item if you're not expecting it is the detents for passenger pegs. Inside the peg there's two ball bearings being pushed out by a spring. Pull out that peg without something wrapped around it and one of the ball bearings will rocket off into never land.
