I have no affiliation to the seller, but it looks like it could be made into a rat Duc fairly cheap...

Educate me, don't know a thing about the 800SS

Injected, 6-speed, wet-slipper clutch.  About 78hp.  Suspension on this model needs help, brakes do not (for what speeds the bike will achieve).

With the bodywork removed, it would feel like a less powerful Betty...

Stew,
How much do you think I would need to put into the bike to make it a
descent track bike (i.e. suspension, track skin, repairs, tires etc.)?

Yay! I like where you are going with this Karl!

My thought would be first season no investment! Put frame sliders and do few track days without any skin...Then start modifying per need! [thumbsup]

A set of sticky tires would be a must!!!!!

But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

1 to 1.5k in suspension bit and ride it!  There's an 800 SS racer in my garage right now if you wanna stare at one.

Price looks high to me for a non-running salvage bike, though.

He does have it as OBO though...  I was thinking if you offered $1800 +/- you'd probably score it.  If the ecu/dash/keys are the issue, that can be remedied with an ecu re-flash.  I doubt the side-stand switch is the culprit like he indicates.

The reply: Hi Karl, I would consider that....but right now I have no way to deliver it to abq. I had to borrow a friend's truck to pick it up from the auction and not sure when I would have access to it again. You don't have any way to pick it up?
